Wanner Gomphothere Site

August 23, 1998. This is the northern half of the site, and the elusive femur I'm looking for is reported to be in the northern half. Eyewitnesses who were here when Fort Hays dug here think I'm in the right place.

August 25, 1998. With the help of a large tree limb, I moved a large boulder. Underneath I found a large mass of spongy bone, and two other large bones, one might be a jawbone. This site is noted for lots of "floaters", small pieces of bone and tortoise shell that are scattered through the whole sandy deposit, but usually are not connected with any of the larger bones found in the same deposit.
