i live in lawrence, kansas, in a big blue house with a pink porch swing. it used to be called the pirate house, and some people still call it that, but i'm not really sure why because i don't live with pirates. just kurt, dave, roland, adam and kat. on thursdays people come to our house to eat. at 7 o'clock we have a vegan potluck. people always bring really good food, and afterwards we all have to sit around for awhile from eating too much. on saturdays we do food not bombs. lawrence already has some really good programs to feed hungry and homeless people in the area, but we manage to salvage tofu, bread and vegetables and not let them go to waste. our food not bombs is a little different, we built a wagon out of lumber and bike parts and we have a parade through the streets of lawrence and serve food to people we pass. we have drums and trombones and costumes and it's a lot of fun. lawrence is a great town and there are some amazing kids there. i'm drifting away from my purpose here... the band part: i play guitar, and when billy and i started this band, Andiy was 9 years old. too bad she didn't sing for us back then. speaking of age.. technically i'm not a kid anymore. but as ian says "it's not how old i am, it's how old i feel." i don't feel any older than i did when billy and i started playing together in 1993. it's still just as exciting and new, and every time we play i still get a little nervous. for me, this band is just about the joy of playing music, we've changed a lot over the years, and i'm really happy with what we've become. i'd just like to say thanks to all the kc and lawrence kids who have helped make this little punk scene we're all a part of. these things never last forever, so we should all just enjoy it and appreciate it while we can. it's our time right now, it's our youth, and even if you lose sight, never give up, never lose hope. we are making tomorrow today, and that's not a shitty corporate slogan, it's what i believe.
