NEW CHRISTIANS AND NEW CHURCHES IN A NEW CENTURY

NEW LIFE 2010

New Life 2010 American Baptists believe God has given us a vision for the new century: to plant 1,010 new churches in the United States and Puerto Rico by the year 2010. Doubling our rate of new church planting is an ambitious goal, but seeing the goal in light of the missionary task compels us to act. So many areas of the United States have yet to be touched by God's hand. In fact, with 140,000,000 people in the United States still unchurched, out country is the third largest mission field in the world.

Now is the time to start planting new churches in growing areas and among unreached groups, and to consider other contexts that may develop as this new millennium unfolds.

To fuel this errort the New Christians and New Churches in a New Century Campaign plans to raise $7,500,000 in support funds. WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Rekindle! and Congregational Transformation

RekindleRekindle! is one of eight initiatives at the national and regional levels designed to encourage congregational transformation. All eight support the American Baptist NEW LIFE 2010 vision to reach 1,000,010 new Christians, plant 1,010 new churches, reach out in a multitude of caring ministries-and so transform our congregations by the year 2010.

Using the vision of 2 Timothy 1:6,7 where Paul instructs Timothy to "rekindle the gift of God that is within you," Rekindle! helps leaders assist their congregations to develop a spiritually rooted, purposeful vision, establish a flexible renewal plan, and become a healthy church with a mission as they implement their plan.

  • May be at a plateau in terms of attendance and giving
  • Will work closely with regional and area staff leadership
  • Will look at church renewal as a longer term process rather than a "quick fix"
  • Should be eager to work in renewal together with other churches in a cluster and across the country
