RELATIONSHIP CHART

Use the chart below to help determine the relationship between you and another relative.

  1. Determine the common ancestors you and the share.

  2. Beginning with your Common Ancestors in the upper left corner, find yourself across the top and note the column.

  3. Next, locate your Common Ancestors in the upper left corner, find the other person down the left side and make note of the row.

  4. Find the box where YOUR column and THEIR row coincide.

  5. This is the relationship you share with the other person.

The key point to Remember in determing your relationships is that You retain the exact same cousin relationnship to any one given individual that your DIRECT ancestors had.

For example, If "A" is the first cousin of your gggrandfather, then "A" is your first cousin as well.

To demonstrate the difference in YOU and your gggrandfathers relationship, his is given as "first cousin", yours as "first cousin, twice removed".
