Currently, Rivers has only released the song meanings for the blue album, so that is all that is here officially. I took the liberty of offering my perspective on the songs from Pinkerton.
No One Else: "The jealous-obsessive asshole in me freaking out on my girlfriend."
The World Has Turned And Left Me Here: "The same asshole wondering why she's gone."
Buddy Holly: "It's about a particular girl I knew... It's about my commitment to her... our relationship... and, er, my willingness to defend her. It's very platonic. Not a romantic thing at all."
Undone-The Sweater Song: "The feeling you get when the train stops and the little guy comes knockin' on your door. It was supposed to be a sad song, but everyone thinks it's hilarious."
Surf Wax America: "A total sarcasic call to hedonism, so sing along, drink and be merry. I hate drinking and only do so when I aboslutely have to (which in these days, seems to be quite often).
Say It Ain't So: "also about beer."
In The Garage & Holiday: "Written in a sudden burst of confidence and optimism right after we got a record deal. Those positive emotions have since dissipated - along with out cash advances - but I still like the songs."
Only In Dreams: "About being in love at a distance."
"None of these songs are perfect, but I think you can hear that we're trying hard to be honest and real. Pat really kicked ass on the drums and Brian, Matt and I sang with a lot of feeling. The record sounds kind of weird, but if you turn it up extremely loud and lie down, it can be rewarding."-Rivers
Tired Of Sex: About being tired of casual sex with groupies on the road, and wanting something more.
Getchoo: Could be about how Rivers is playing around with his girlfriend and won't commit to anything ("...You don't wanna play around no more...").
No Other One: About not being happy with the current situation, but being afraid of being lonely(..."She's all I got and I don't wanna be alone...")
Why Bother?: About being fed up and questioning why he should even try.
Across The Sea: I think this is a lot like "Only In Dreams", in that Rivers is in love at a distance ("Why are you so far away from me!?"). The song is LITERALLY about a letter Weezer got from a girl in Japan wanting to know all about them and their hobbies, etc. But, as with every Weezer song, you have scratch the surface and look deeper into it.
The Good Life: Completely contradictory to "Tired Of Sex", in that he wants to go BACK to the life of "Shakin' bootie, makin' sweet love all the night."
El Scorcho: I have no idea what the hell this song is about. Next question.
Pink Triangle: About being stabbed in the back by his gay fiancee (something we can all relate to, right?)
Falling For You: About Rivers falling for someone. It's that simple.
Butterfly: Just listen to the song or read the lyrics and you will know.
