Jeremy Parker's Review of WEEZER-"Weezer"

Weezer's self-titled debut album is a keeper. Released in 1994, this triple-platinum CD is an album of loud guitars, catchy choruses, and meaningful lyrics. "Weezer" is on the David Geffen label, and is the best music to hit the scene since Def Leppard.

There is no bad song on "Weezer". It has 10 songs straight from the life of Rivers Cuomo. In "Only In Dreams", Cuomo talks about the burden of being in love, but not being able to tell the girl of his dreams how he feels. "Only In Dreams" is 8 minutes long, but that is okay, because the buildup at the end of the song with the two "dueling guitars" conveys the severity of Cuomo's wishing he could tell her how he feels. In the hit "Say It Ain't So", the guitars scream like never before. Weezer has an ability so few others do, and that is to convey their feelings through their instruments.

The reason Weezer "Weezer" is such a good album because every song on the album follows a formula that works:
A few opening verses, a guitar interlude/solo, and kick back in with a loud chorus. It is a formula that would only work for weezer.

"Weezer" consists of ten excellent songs, and is a must-buy. The three singles off of "Weezer" ("Undone-The Sweater Song"; "Buddy Holly"; and "Say It Ain't So") have gotten lots of airplay both on radio and video, and deservedly so, with each being a great song. But those are not the only great songs. Like I said, this is an album of ten excellent songs, beginning to end. This is one of the few albums that can be enjoyed by everyone, and can be played from the first song ("My Name Is Jonas") to the last ("Only In Dreams").

I give Weezer's "Weezer" an A+ and I recommend it to anyone.
