The following is an article I submitted in October, 2003 to The Manhattan Mercury as a contributing writer. This was during the so-called "National Marriage Protection Week" endorsed nationally by president Bush and locally by the Manhattan, KS. mayor Mark Taussig. There was a big uproar over it, and many barbs were traded in the local paper between proselytizing religious leaders and people who actually aren't stuck in the 50's. The following article is mostly in response to those Letters to the Editor, but don't fret if you didn't read them; it still applies to the gay marriage issue on the national scale.
The article was never printed, because this had been going on for nearly two weeks, and while the Opinions editor Walt Braun told me he liked the piece, they were tired of beating a dead horse over and over again. I felt it was a decent article that deserved a decent readership, so I've reproduced it here for the world to see/admire. Enjoy.
