When you like some thing allot, one thing you’ll hate seeing is a copy-cat. Lately, we’ve been seeing quiet a bit of these around. On TV there’s a show called Digimon: Digital Monsters that’s allot like Pokemon, almost as if it was coping it. It’s a Japanese animation like Pokemon, and it’s also about kids with monster friends that evolve. We all know Pokemon’s the real deal, and Digimon’s just coping it, because were Pokemon fans and that’s what fans do. They stick up for when they believe in. Just one problem. The real truth of the matter is... it’s not coping it. Not at all. [This is for you Psypoke.com!] Just to ease some Poke-fans minds who don’t watch Digimon and don’t plan on watching it, I’m going give you the low down of it’s story line, and the reasons why Digimon has nothing to do with Pokemon.
I know allot about Digimon because I watch it on FOX 31, or FOXKIDS Daily. I’m a huge fan of it. In the very first show it starts off with Tai, one of the 7 Digidestined, telling about how Earth’s weather has been changing strangely. First point right there, Tai and the other kids come from the real world, this world. In Pokemon, everyone lives in a world filled with Pocket Monsters, but in Digimon, only Tai, Izzy, Matt, T.K., Sora, Mimi and Joe (and one other kid who I will not name), go to the Digiworld. The Digiworld is a digital world were many monsters live. In a way, the Digiworld is like an alternate universe to Earth, but in another way it’s not because it’s connected to Earth, almost like a it’s a shadow world to the real world. Anyways, the 7 kids are all at summer camp when a freak snow storm hits. A snow storm in the summer? Totally freaky! Because of the storm, the kids end up all together. When they run outside after the storm ends, they notice that the sky looks weird. Suddenly, a strange portal opens in the sky, and shoots out 7 strange looking digital devices. The kids pick them help, and then get swept into the portal which takes them to Digiworld. When the kids wake up they meet 7 monsters, Koromon, Motimon, Yocomon, Tsunomon, Tokomon, Bukamon and last but not least, Tanemon. The kids soon find out that these 7 monsters are their monsters, but don’t know why. The Kids are attacked by an evil Digimon named Kuwagamon, and the 7 Digimon go in to action. But Kawagamon is to powerful for them to beat because it’s Digivolved further then they have. At this point of the show, the seven Digimon are in the Micro Digimon stage, a beginner stage they evolve to very soon after their born. With the help of the Kids, and there strange Digivices, they all evolve in to stronger monsters. Agumon (Tai’s Digimon), Biyomon( Sora’s), Tentomon (Izzy’s), Gabumon (Matt’s), Patamon (T.K’s) Gomamon (Joe’s), and Palmon (Mimi’s) are what the 7 kids monsters become. These are the stages you’ll see the monsters in most of the time, unless there’s trouble or if they just finished evolving from Ultimate form. When ever there’s trouble, the monsters digivolve to stronger monsters, then revert back to their weaker stages after the fights over. They can do this because they have the help of the 7 kids Digivices. Only they can Digivolve like this, other monsters can’t. An example is, if Tai’s in danger, Agumon can Digivolve to Greymon, then back to Agumon. After they get the Crests, the Digimon can evolve even further. Another example is Koromon evolves to Agumon, then Agumon evolves to Greymon, and with the power of the Crests evolves to Metal Greymon, an Ultimate form. When this happens, he goes further back in evolution to Koromon and not to Agumon.
All right, I know your probably thinking, “That’s why it’s coping Pokemon! The Monsters Evolve!” I use to think that too, until I started reading up about Digimon and found out that it was a Digital game -(like Nano Pets and Pokemon Pikachu)- back in 1992. You trained a Koromon, and depending on how you treated and took care of it, it would evolve in to a different Monster. That was before Pokemon was invented. Meaning.... Pokemon actually Copied Digimon! Pokemon came out in 1995. Just think of it this way, neither of them copied each other, it was total coincidence that the monsters can evolve. When you watch the Digimon show, you’ll also find out that it’s allot more violent then Pokemon, because the bad Digimon die. Also, every monsters name ends with “Mon” meaning Monsters in Japanese. Just so your not left hanging, I’ll finish off telling the Digimon story. There’s a legend that 7 kids called the Digidestined will one day come to the Digiworld and save it from all the bad Digimon that threaten it. They will be able to use devices called Digivices and the power of the Crests to evolve their Digimon anytime they need them. You find out that Tai and his friends are these 7 kids, that’s why their Digimon can evolve in seconds. Also, later on in the story you find out that the reason why the weather was going hay-wire on Earth is because things that happen in the Digiworld also effect the real world. So, if the kids don’t stop the bad Digimon soon, Earth will be doomed.
If you want to know more about Digimon the TV show, go to the Fox Kids website or watch it on Fox Kids or YTV on the weekend. Check local listing’s for the time you can see it at. It’s a great show, after you put your angry towards it away. It might not be as good as Pokemon, but it’s not much worse.
