Pokemon Yellow Pokedex reading: It may be mistaken for a clump of weeds. If you try to yank it out of the ground, it shrieks horribly.
Oddish is, well, odd. During the day, this weedlike Pokemon keeps its head buried in the ground. At night, it wanders around planting seeds and sprinkling pollen as it walks. It likes to poison or stun it’s enemy and then drains its energy. At higher levels, this combo Grass/ Poison Pokemon may have special abilities. It’s Petal Dance hurts and confuses other Pokemon. Oddish uses Solar Beam to increase it’s own energy on its first turn so it can have an extra powerful attack on its second turn.
Where can I catch it?- Oddish is just one of the several combined Grass-and-Poison type Pokemon you’ll find on Routes 24 & 25, that’s the place you meet Bill, above Cerulean City and across the bridge. It should be around level 12 or so. This is the first place you can catch Oddish in the games Red, Blue and Yellow. You can catch it with a normal PokeBall.
The Gym Leader Erika uses a fully evolved kind of Oddish, Vileplume. When you battle it in Red & Blue it should be at level 29.

In “Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village,” Ash and Misty argue over who will catch the leafy
topped Pokemon while Bulbasaur thwarts their attempt by rescuing Oddish.
The TV Show- Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village is the first Pokemon show Oddish appears in, but it’s first appearance isn’t a good one. Right after Misty sees it she try’s to go for the catch, mainly because Oddish was by a small pond. Bad move by Misty. A Bulbasaur leaps out of the bushes and headbutts her PokeBall away, and Tackles Starmie. Ash makes his move with Butterfree, but Butterfree’s own attack back fires on it when Bulbasaur blows it’s own pollen into it’s face. Then like it did before, Bulbasaur tackles Butterfree. Before Ash or Misty can try another go at it, Oddish and Bulbasaur are gone. Later on in the show, the two kids find out that Oddish was under Bulbasaur’s protection from a tiny village that takes care of hurt or abandoned Pokemon. Oddish at been abandoned by it’s trainer, just like Bulbasaur had. When the gang leaves the village with Bulbasaur, Oddish waves goodbye.
What I think about Oddish- Oddish is a Grass/ Poison Pokemon just like Bulbasaur, and that makes it weaker and stronger in different points. Because it’s part Grass, it’s weak against air, flying, and poison Pokemon, but because it’s also part Poison, it’s weak against Pokemon it should be strong against, 1 example is ground Pokemon. Oddish learns both grass and Poison attacks. Absorb, Solarbeam, and Poison powder, are just a few of it’s attacks. Oddish is an OK Pokemon, but it’s speed is pretty bad. If you didn’t pick Bulbasaur at the beginning of the game, you can either pick from Bellsprout or Oddish for a grass Pokemon, which are both great Pokemon. Oddish evolves in to Gloom at level 21. It’s last, and strongest evolution is Vileplume, a very strong Pokemon if trained right. You should always remember that if you evolve your Gloom right after it evolve from Oddish, it won’t learn all of it’s attacks. So you should wait until Gloom learns Solar Beam before you evolve it.
