Connie's
Book Exchange continues!
All
of us who knew Connie Boone, knew her passion for BOOKS! She was
addicted to them in the best possible way. And it was an
idea proposed by Captain B. (and enthusiastically pursued by
Connie and ks) to have a book exchange at our musters whereby people could
contribute duplicate copies of books they'd read, books they'd
like to pass along to others, old Civil War magazines, etc., and
new owners would be able to take home those treasures.
Kind of a "share the wealth amongst us"
exchange. Connie and ks talked at length about how this might
work. Connie wanted it to be very informal as well as fun. And at Musters Past, it has been all that and more. We're
most certainly proceeding as Ms. Connie wished.
If
you have some Civil War related books you'd like to contribute, bring
them along to muster. Perhaps you have a copy of a
Civil War movie or some music you'd be willing to pass along to
a friend. That would be great as well. Extra copies
of some Civil War magazines? We'd welcome your surplus
items to share with the group. In past years,
"gently worn" t-shirts from previous musters showed up on
the table as well as hardtack, CDs, videos, bookmarks and much
more.
Something we're continuing in 2011 is to invite chatroom participants
to share Civil War history that's close to home. If you have
publications (or CW music?) pertinent to your region, please consider adding
copies to the exchange! A book on a soldier from your area,
a battle fought near your hometown, or a regimental history of
local interest (local to YOU, that is) would be great.
Additionally, we'd welcome brochures from historic sites in your
home area.
Susan
Sweet has volunteered to head up the efforts involved in pulling
together the 2011 Book Exchange. Her plan is to have a
table set aside in or
near the room where we'll dine the last night of muster.
That Saturday night everyone will have time to informally
browse through whatever recyclable treasures appear and make a
choice (or two, or more) to take home as their own.
If
you have questions or suggestions, or would like to obtain a
mailing address so that items can be sent in advance, please
contact Sue.
This activity
has been a VERY positive addition to our
gatherings. All bets are on it being even better in 2011!
