Paul Albert, brother 12 p.m. Sat. April 15, 2000
(xxx) xxx xxxx
From the microfllm of the Chicago Daily News of Monday, August 7, 1944 I found the death notice of F/O. John "Jack" Albert, which listed three brothers, Paul, Carl and Thomas.
The directory listed just one Paul Albert in Chicago; no Carl Albert; and three Thomas Alberts.

My first call was to Paul who was a brother. (In fact, the only surviving brother.) . He seemed to welcome my call. I told him how I had reached him and gave him both the Naper 28 website and my e-mail address so his daughter could check out the website and/or contact me.
He told me Jack was single at the time of his death. He thought the crash was at Coffeyville, KS. I gave him a few of the details and told him of the planned visit to the crash site on May 13th. (He would be unable to make it he said.)

Their mother just passed away recently at 103 years of age. She had outlived two husbands and three sons. Paul told me his brother Thomas, who had remained in the Navy as a pilot, was killed in the crash of a Navy Neptune in 1957 near Cheriton or Chincoteague, VA. (I offered to obtain the accident report if he so desired.) Thomas had been married and was a father. Paul said he keeps in touch with the widow and sons. Brother Carl had died recently of cancer.

Paul seemed to appreciate my effort. I told him of plans to place a memorial. He said he would be interested in knowing about that so he could attend.
