Chapter Seventeen

Brandy's eyes fluttered open as she heard commotion in the bathroom. She looked over towards the bathroom door and could detect light coming from underneath the door. She pulled her knees in towards her chest and pulled the blankets back over her body. She shut her eyes and laid there. The shower cut off and a few minutes later AJ came out, drying his hair with the towel. He tip-toed over towards the bed and bent down to see if she was awake. She opened her eyes. "Oh I didn't mean to wake you," he said softly. "No, I was already awake. I was just laying here, trying to wake up," she remarked smiling as he leaned down to kiss her.

He walked over to the windows and opened the curtains, letting the sunlight fill the room. "Ahhh, my eyes. I think I'm melting," Brandy joked pulling the blankets over her head to protect her eyes. She pulled them back down slowly and sat up in bed. She rubbed her eyes and yawned. "Where are you going," she asked slowly. "I have to go to a photo shoot," he answered, running around the room, rumaging through his closet. He opened his dresser and pulled out a white wife beater. He slipped into a pear of gray cargo pants and went over and joined Brandy, sitting on the bed. "You wanna come with me and keep me company," he asked. "I'd love to but I have to go to class. I can come after I get out though," she smiled. "Aww, I gotta wait all the way until one o'clock." "Hey, there will be tons of young ladies with raging hormons way bofore you even get there. They're probably out there waiting on you right now," she joked. "Besides, I can't just not go to class." "I know I'm just playing. Stop being so defensive. Damn quite attacking me," he joked. She growled playfully then bit his ear. He grabbed her arms and pulled her away. "Stop, that tickles," he said.

She hoped off of the bed and stretched. She walked into the bathroom and closed the door behind her. She turned the water on in the sink and brushed her teeth. She turned sideway and poked out her tummy. She rubbed it as she thought about getting fat. "Why do I always worry about being fat," she asked herself. She held her shirt out making it look as though her stomach was slightly larger. "I wonder if AJ will still love me when I'm fat," she continued her silent thoughts. Her thoughts were interupted by AJ, opening the bathroom door. He looked at her, "Aww your so cute," he said as she noticed she was still holding her shirt out from her stomach. She quickly let her shirt fall back to normal. She looked at the ground and bit her lip, as she always did when she was caught off guard or she was nervous.

He walked over to her and gave her a hug. He smiled at her, "I'm going to get something to eat, you want," he asked. "I guess I'll eat yet another egg McMuffin," she said in a drawn out tone. "I'm glad you see it my way," he smirked. He kissed her and told her he would be back in a little bit. She turned around and started her shower as he closed the bathroom door behind him.

Brandy took her shower and prepared herself for school. She walked down stairs with all of her things. She walked over to the refridgerator and opened the door. She took out a bottled water and closed the door back. As she did she noticed a sheet of paper attached to the freezer door. She took it down off of the magnet and read it.

Hey baby, Hope you have a good day. I'll miss you.
Call me on my cell if you need to get in
touch with me for any reason. Don't forget
you promised that you would come keep me company.
I love you

xoxo, Me

She smiled at the note and grabbed her things, shoving the note into her pocket and walking out the door. She walked out into the driveway and got in her car. She put the key in the ignition and turned it. As her car cranked up she noticed the cd player had been turned on. She didnt remember leaving it on last night. Before she was able to process her thoughts the Backstreet Boys song No One Else Comes Close, came blaring over the speakers, that had been turned up. Obviously AJ had put it there before he left. She listen to the song all the way to the campus before turning the car off.

As she approached the main entrance of the building she heard someone calling her name. "Brandy," the voice repeated a bit louder as she turned around to see who it was. When she did Kyle came up and smiled at her. "Hey are you deaf," he asked her, laughing. "No," she answered in a confused look. "I called for you as you got out of your car," he told her. "Oh I'm sorry, I had my stereo turned up pretty loud. I guess my ear drums hadn't adjusted yet," she said laughing. "It's ok," he said, "I'll walk you to class." Brandy walked through the door, which Kyle was holding for her. As they walked down the hall Kyle cracked jokes and made small talk with her. Brandy knew what it was leading to but she just didn't want to face it. They approched the room and walked in, taking a seat. "So what are you doing this weekend," he asked her sweetly. "Kyle, I don't want to hurt your feelings because you are a really sweet guy, but I'm involved with someone. I would like it if we could just be friends," she said, her face turning red. "Oh I see. Well friends it is then," he said in a half smile.

The professor walked in and stodd there looking over the class as everyone calmed down. "Ok where did we leave off yesterday," the professor asked the class. He looked towards Brandy. "Ms. Jackson do you care to refresh my memory on a summerazation of my last few statements yesterday," he asked, burning a whole through her with his eyes. Brandy's face turned red and she bit her lip before stating that she hadn't been there. The professor knew she was a good student and had been saddened by the fact that she had missed so many days here lately. Brandy sat there while he continued, taking notes and concentrating on his every word.

When class was dismissed Brandy and Kyle exited to the parking lot, to Brandy's car. Kyle had parked a few spaces down, unknowingly, from her car. "Do you have anymore classes today," he asked her before he walked to his car. She answered no and told him she was just going to get a frap at Starbucks before going to meet someone. "That someone wouldn't be the one your involved with, would it," he asked jokingly. "Maybe," she said looking over her sunglasses. "But if you want you can come with me to Starbucks, to keep me company since we are such good friends now," she said smiling. "Sure I'd love to," he said. "Ok well I'll meet you over there in a few minutes, ok," she asked. He obliged and walked to his car.

The two sipped their frapauchinos and talked as friends foir quite a while. Brandy nonchalantly looked at her watch. 1:00 p.m. She had a little more time, Kyle was in the middle of a story. The time passed and they kept telling silly stories from their childhood. Brandy looked at her watch again. It still read 1:00 p.m. She looked at the clock on the all. It read 1:25 p.m. "Wow I didn't know it was this late. I got all wrapped up in the conversation and the time flew by," she said to Kyle, laughing. The waitress came over and the two paid for their drinks and left.

Brandy stopped at a red light and pulled her cell phone out from the bottom of her purse. She pressed her foot down on the gas while dialing AJ's number. He answered after a series of rings. "Yo," he yelled into the receiver. "Hi," she answered, "I'm sorry I'm so late. I was having coffee with a friend and lost track of time," she explained. "It's ok don't worry about it. Listen before you get over here it would be best if you put on a hat or something. There are reporters everywhere outside." "What's wrong," she asked. "This whole thing on the baby has been blown out of proportion," he said softly. Brandy came upon yet another red light and reached in the back seat for an Atlanta Falcons hat. "Listen I have to go. I have to go back to wardrobe and change my clothes for next shoot," he said saying his goodbyes. She said her goodbyes and pressed the end button on her phone, throwing it in the passenger seat beside her.

She tuned down the street that the building was on and entered the parking lot. She adjusted her hat before getting out of the car. She saw the outsite of reporters, mingling, waiting for someone to pounce on. She slowly walked towards the door. As she did the reporter approached her asking her for her name. She just raised her hand and pushed them aside. "Are you AJ McLean's girlfriend," one shouted. "Are you really pregnant," another one blurted. "How old are you... Do you live together," the questions proceeded as the blinding cameras flashed and she forced her way to the door.

She entered the building and walked into the ladies room. She leaned against the wall and caught her breath. "Those reporters are hell," she told herself. She looked at herself in the mirror and dampened her face. She finished up and left. Walking towards the studio in which AJ had told her to go to in order to find him. She walked in and looked around. People were moving about doing their own thing. She skimmed for any sight of him. She spotted him and caught his eye. He walked over to her and gave her a quick kiss before directing her over to the rest of the guys. "Hey Brandy," Howie said sweetly. "Hey Howie," she answered smiling. Howie had been the only one that was friendly with her. Everyone was nice but it was obvious that they thought she had caused too much trouble.

Kevin continued on the conversation they were having with the photographers about the next layout. Brandy listened attentively as they talked about wardrobe and other things. She was caught off guard when someone swiftly walked past her and bumped into her. She turned around to see who the culprit was. She was greeted my the sly, evil grin of non other that Amber. She pulled her hand from AJ's grip and walked over towards her. "Well hello Amber. How's your ego feeling, I know it was pretty bruised last I heard," Brandy said, struting over towards her and returning the evil grin. "Oh I'm doing just great all except maybe a headache. Those reperters where giving me hell when I walked in. 'Are you AJ's girlfriend. Do you know if AJ is going to be a father sometime soon.' Don't worry Brian's told me all about it. I would say it's our little secret but, technically, I don't think we can call it a secret," Amber said, never breaking their eye contact. Brandy looked at her with a discusted look. "You know I think maybe we got off to a wrong start. I'm nt really sure why you don't like me so but I think maybe you should move on. It is getting a little childesh. If you can't handle that then you'll havbe another problem," she told Amber. "And what might that be mama McLean," Amber asked. "You have to watch you back. You never know where I might pop up and pop you in the eye," she said moving closer to her. "Brandy," Katy blurted across the room, observing the tension between the two. "Yo whats up chica," Katy said pushing Brandy aside. "Hey chill out. You need to control your temper in here. Reporters already have plenty to talk about," Katy whispered to her walking her into a dressing room. "They bombarded you too, huh," Brandy asked Katy. "Yea as they did every other female with brown hair today," Katy answered.

Brandy sat down in the chair and laid her head in her hands. "I fucked up big this time," she told Katy. "Hey this isn't one you can change so don't worry about it. Besides it can't be too good for "it" if you are all stressed out. Speaking of, have you been to the doctor and had a check up yet," Katy asked her. "No my first appointment is next week," she answered. "Good, it's about time you start taking the folic acid vitamins. You know that is where you baby gets it brains and all," Katy told her jokingly. "Ok mama, I'll remember that," she joked back. "Ok ok I'm only the nurse here, other than that I have no medical education. I wouldn't know what I was talking about if it hit me in the forehead, right." "Shut up. You can be such a smart ass sometimes," Brandy said, smiling. "I made you smile," Katy said punching her in the arm. Brandy laughed and leaned back in the chair.

"So how are you and Kevin." "Everything is cool," Katy responded. "Are you guys getting serious," Brandy asked. "I dunno yet. It moving kind of slow right now. Which is cool with me, I'm still a little unsure about the whole famous Backstreet Boy thing here." "Yea I know. If I didn't love AJ I would go home and start all over. Let mama watch the baby while I went to school. I know she wouldn't like that too much, but we don't have to worry about that because I'm not leaving," she said having to reassure herself that she was right about loving him. "I have wanted to leave so many times. I keep telling myself that AJ doesn't deserve to be put through this, that his career is at stake. He loves what he does and I would feel bad taking that away from him. Then everytime I get ready to pack my bags and leave town a whole bunch of other thoughts hit me like a train. 'I can't leave, I love him. He loves me. I can't quit school," Brandy continued on but Katy interupted her, "Look, everything is going to work out for the best. You love him and he loves you so you have to make it work," Katy said reassuringly. "I know. I dont know what I'm talking about. When I start jabbering like that just smack me in the head, cool," she joked with Katy. "Gotcha," she answered. "Imma go find my baby," Katy said. "I'll catcha later," she finished before exiting the room.

Brandy stood up and pulled the hat off of her head. She threw it down on the counter and stretched. She looked in the mirror and fixed her hair. She heard AJ's voice coming down the hall. She jumped behind the door just as AJ opened it. He closed at and she jumped on his back. "Damn girl. Your gonna give me a heart attack," he said while Brandy's legs and arms were still wrapped around him. "Who told you I was in here," she asked kissing his cheek. "I'll never tell," he said with an evil grin. "It was Katy wasn't it," she asked slyly. "Well maybe but I would have found out anyways. This does happen to be the one, the only, AJ McLean's dressing room ya know," he said setting her down. He turned to face her. He moved towards her and she moved backwards. He backed her up in a corner. He placed his hand on the wall and looked down at her. He lowered his head and lightly kissed her lips, deepening it quickly.

She rubbed her fingers through his hair while leaning into his body. He picked her up and pushed her body upagainst the wall. She wrapped her legs around him. Their tounges explored each others mouth. She could feel that he was starting to get an erection. "No AJ not here," she said lowering herself back down. He sat down in the chair and rubbed his face. "Damn girl, what am I going to do with you," he said. She walked over to him and stood inbetween his legs. She shrugged her shoulders. AJ pulled her towards him and wrapped his arms around her, still sitting in the chair. He laid his head on her stomach. "I think I can hear the baby's heart beat," he told her after a few moments. "I think not AJ. I'm only 3 1/2 months pregnant. Besides I'm pretty sure you aren't able to hear it's heart beat unless you listne through a machine," she told him. He laughed and sat back up. "My first appointment with my physician is next week on Tuesday, will you come with me," she asked him. He pulled her down in is lap. "Ofcourse I'm gonna be there. What kind of dad would I be if I wasn't there for it's first t.v. show," he said into her neck. She nuzzeled towards him.

They just had gotten completely comfortable when someone knocked at the door. "Hey Bone, get a move on we're waiting on you," Nick yelled from the other side of the door. Brandy got down and he stood up, looking in the mirror to make sure everything was in it's place.

AJ walked over infrmt of the camera. They all stood there except Kevin. "Where is Kevin," the photographer asked. "I dunno, he'll be here in a minute," Brian said. "Ok, well lets get some individual shots," the photographer ordered, motioning for Nick to come in frmt of the camera.

Brandy walked off to find Katy. She went into Kevin's dressing room, which was her best bet. She slowly opened the door. The lights were off. "Katy," Brandy whispered. No one answered and she shut the door. She shut the door and walked around the corner. There she waited for a maximum of maybe 12 seconds. Katy and Kevin flew out the door. Brandy jumped out, "I caughtcha." Katy grabbed her heart and almost fell to the floor. "Your too nosey," Kevin said smiling. "Your taking things slow huh," she said looking over at Katy he had recooperated. She walked over to Kevin and rubbed his upper lip, "Had a little lip gloss on your lips, Kev," she said. "They are waitin on you, you better go before you get fired from being a Backstreet Boy," Brandy joked. Kevin laughed and ran off.

"I can see things are working out better than I you let on huh," Brandy said smiling walking over to Katy's side as they walked down the hall. "What, he asked me if his breath smelt good so I told him I would test it. It was that innocent," she said sarcastically. "Are you going to the BBQ later on," Katy asked changing the subject. "Yea AJ said something about that. I dunno, Kev isn't too crazy about me and it is his house and all," Brandy remarked. "Aw Kevin likes you, he just has a funny way of showing it. He's kinda shy," Katy said nudging her shoulder.

The two girls walked down the hall joking and looking for trouble to get into. They decided to go get the fella some lunch. The hopped in Brandy's car and went to Chick fa la. Brandy was sick of Mickey D's.
