Against All Odds

Chapter Ten

“Nick is the baby your?” A reporter asked when her turn came around. With slight hesitation Nick answered no.

“Did you ever have any sexual contact with this young lady?”

“Umm, no ma’am,” Nick answered as tons of camera flashes went off.

“Where have the rest of you been through all of this?”

“Hiding from all of you,” AJ laughed.

“Do you plan on counter suing this young lady if the child is not yours?”

“No sir.”

“Is the group breaking up?”

Kevin raised his hand at this. “No one is going anywhere. We are one hundred percent behind Nick and although the groups activity will be postponed until we get everything straightened out, we are still the Backstreet Boys.”

“How does your attorney intend on dealing with the case?”

“That’s up to my attorney.”

Although Nick wanted badly to be outgoing and hide his emotions for the well being of the group, he wasn’t succeeding.

“Look that’s about all the questions we have time for today,” Brian said, standing to his feet.

More than seventy-five reporters stood, asking more questions although none of them were answered. A handful of huge men surrounded the boys as they walked off the stage and away from the swarming press.

Brandy stood amidst the many reporters and tried to make it over to AJ. Once she beat through them his bodyguards tossed her off as another reporter. Thinking it might have did some good despite the size of this huge man compared to her; she opened her mouth to set him straight. Just as she did so AJ caught her arm and pulled her to his side. Holding her hand he practically drug her through the press.

Once they were in his car he breathed a sigh of relief. “I thought I told you to go straight to the car,” he asked, pulling out of the parking lot in a rush. “I tried. Everyone crowded around me and I couldn’t find my way out.”

Brandy stood in the kitchen, looking through the cabinets and the fridge for something to fix for dinner. AJ had been gone almost all day with Howie. The both of them had gone to visit Nick.

She couldn’t figure out what she wanted, and she wasn’t sure what AJ liked. She wasn’t even a good cook. She just prayed that the directions would be on the back. After searching the kitchen over she had reached a conclusion. The reason that AJ was so tiny was that he never ate food at home. She decided she would go to the market and go shopping for him. She just hoped he didn’t mind is she borrows his car.

“Crystal,” Brandy yelped into the phone. “Please help me. I’m such a screw up.”

“What happened,” Crystal asked in a serious tone.

“Well, I’m trying to cook stuffed shells and the shells aren’t working right,” Brandy complained. “Will you come over here and help me do this?”

“Brandy, I have midterms coming up. I had to sacrifice enough to make it to your birthday. I’m too busy, I’m sorry.”

“But Crystal,” she whined.

AJ leaned in the doorway and smiled, folding his arms.

“Crystal, lemme call you back, ok, bye.”

“I looks great honey,” he laughed at the site of Brandy with spaghetti sauce all over her hands along with a little smudge of it on her nose.

“I tried,” she moaned, looking pathetic.

He stuck his finger in the sauce and licked it off. “You know this all looks so wonderful but I thought we could go out for dinner tonight.”

Brandy laughed and washed her hands. “No problem. Just gimmie a few minutes to get ready.”

As she walked out of the bathroom, dressed in a long black dress, her hair flowing down her back, she waited for his approval. He looked her over and smiled. She looked enchanting.

“Lets go,” he said as she grabbed his arm.
