Sekhmet
Sekhmet
is an odd goddess of the highest degree. She is sometimes
equated with hathor. There are very few statues and even fewer paintings
of this goddess. She is said to have come to Earth after Ra declared
punishment on mankind. See Hathor
The lion's head surely represents as vicious and ferocious an animal as
the Egyptians could imagine. There are people worshiped this goddess
in her own right, but more people simply respected the power of the goddess
and tried to stay out of her disfavor.
