The Nonius was developed in the state studfarm of Mezohegyes. The foundation sire of the Nonius breed was Nonius Senior, a stallion by a Norman Mare and the English half-bred Orion, foaled in 1810. To enhance the Nonius breed the Nonius stallion was crossbred with Normans, Arabians, Spanish, English half-breds, and Lipizzaners. From this extensive crossbreeding produced 15 outstanding stallions. Thoroughbreds were introduced to the Nonius breed in the 1860s to help remove lingering imperfections. The breed was then separated into two types, the larger and the smaller. The larger type of Nonius breed was a light farm horse of carriage-type. This larger type was a strong and powerful horse with great riding and jumping ability and a quiet temperament. The smaller type of Nonius breed works very well in harness and is a great riding horse. This smaller version of the Nonius breed has more of the Arabian influence. The Nonius stands on average 15.3 to 16.2 hh. The Nonius breed reaches maturity at six years old and is a longer living horse breed. 		Look for things to get started on my day off (Sat, July 2)Actual Kick oFF will Be Aug 1st 2005! I think I'm gonna start some kind of rare breeds association. For breeds that are rare on Horseland - Like Miyakos. For example, As of today (6/28/2005) I own 7 of the top 10 Miyako Horses And only 3 of them are over 100K pts. So, I really want to get other trainers interested in the breed, so I have better breeding options. This will be a way to get HIGH POINTED Rare Breeds out into horseland. Each month I'll feature a different breed. There will be info, a list of breeders, A Best breeder award,ect. And I'll train 2 mares and 2 stalions to 20K (At least) to be given away each week! (One will be random to a member, To qualify for the other 3, you must have OVER a million player pts or own at least one 100Kpt horse) I'd love to hear people's suggestions about which breeds should be showcased. The goal is to get trainers who CAN train to 100K interested in rare breeds, by giving them free horses. Want to join??? Msg me or send a SB request.
