Celtic Resources in Lawrence, Kansas City & Topeka
The line between what is Scottish as opposed to Irish, Welsh, and even (gasp) English, is obviously very blurry. Fortunately, we Scots are a generous people, so this guide lumps everything under the vague term "Celtic" and leaves it to the discriminating reader to separate further.
Lawrence Scots
"Lawrence Scots" is a coalition of Celtic musicians and Scots enthusiasts in Lawrence who celebrate their heritage through an annual "Lawrence Scottish Fest" celebration, plus other events throughout the year. See the website and "Lawrence Scottish Fest" (under "Festivals" below) for details.www.IrishKC.Com
"IrishKC.Com" provides information about anything remotely Irish (particularly music) in the Kansas City area in the form of a chatty and informative blog. It is the brainchild of Eolaí gan Fhéile, who constructed the websites for most of the various Irish festivals Kansas City has hosted over the years. If you want to know what Irish-related events are happening in Kansas City, this is the place to go.
Although this is a recent website, this organization has been promoting Scottish history and culture in the Topeka area for a number of years.
With over 700 members, Kansas City's St. Andrew Society, online at KCScott.Comis by far the largest Celtic society in this area. They are involved with many different projects, including the St. Andrew Pipes & Drums, a Burns poetry study group, a Gaelic language study group, Highland dancers, and two dinners (Burns and St. Andrew).Kansas Territorial Pipe & Drum

This festival, formerly called "Burns Night," is held the last Sunday in January at the Lawrence Arts Center. The Festival portion also includes a Clan heritage booth, a raffle of original Celtic jewelry, and traditional Scottish treats.
The Concert portion features contemporary Scottish music, including traditional songs & tunes done in a modern style. The Concert also includes songs by Scottish artists (Dougie MacLean, Andy Stewart, Peter Maxwell Davies, etc.) and original Scottish-theme songs by the evening's musicians. Regular performers are Forest Green and either Maria & Megan or their band, Uncle Dirty Toes.
