The infrastructure at Bob van Renen stadium in Krugersdorp has been designed

ATHLETICS
The stadium has a 400m,eight lane tartan track which complies with Olympic standards.
In addition there is a seperate run up for the long jump and triple jump events.
On the field adequate facilities have been provided for high jump,pole vault,
javelin,discus,shot-put and similar events.
CYCLING
Bob van Renen undoubtedly offers the best cycling facilities in the northern provinces.A
cambered 500m concrete track makes provision for the holding of every conceivable
cycling contest.
Bob van Renen is the headquarters of the Western Transvaal Cycling Union.
RUGBY
Bob van Renen's superb field is often the venue for finals such as the Director's
Trophy.The West Rand Rugby Club uses the stadium as its home ground for first
league Pirates Trophy games.
CRICKET
The Jan Lotz stadium adjacent to Bob van Renen is the venue of many first class
cricket games.Its pitch is considered as one of the finest in the country.
Flood lights,recently upgraded,has brought night cricket to the West Rand.
The Jan Lotz stadium has seating for 2000 spectators.
GYMNASTICS
A spacious gymnasium with a large sponge pit has been built below the VIP pavilion.
The local gymnastics club has equipped the gymnasium with top class
apparatus,making the facility highly suitable for practice and contests.The
Impala gymnastics club has produced several provincial and national gymnasts.
FLOOD LIGHTING
Training sessions and sporting events can be staged day and night.Bob van Rene is equipped with one of the most
powerful flood lighting systems in the southern Hemisphere,providing superior
visibility for participants and spectators alike.
SPECTATORS
Throught the years events staged at Bob van Renen have been well supported
by the community on the West Rand.
With its refurbished main pavilion,a seperate VIP pavilion with its own entrance,
and additional conveniences created for the public,Bob van Renen will become
an even greater draw-card.
For instance,5 catering kiosks with a fully equipped kitchen
and storerooms have made the stadium self-sufficient for the provision of
refreshments and meals.
The stadium provides seating to 6000 spectators.Several thousand more can be accommodated
around the course on the slopes on the cycle track.
Few sports stadiums in South Africa can equal the accessibility of Bob van Renen.It is
located at the point where the main arteries from the north,south,west and east meet.It is a mere
30km from Johannesburg and 70km from Pretoria.The greater Bob van Renen precinct
offers plentiful parking immediately adjacent to the pavilions to spectators,officials,VIP

The stadium has its own emergency power generation set which switches on automatically
in the event of a power failure.
A first aid room for medical care of spectators is suitably equipped and manned.A spacious
lapa with excellent catering and bar facilities provides the ideal setting

Special attention has been given to the needs of the physically
handicapped,be they participants,special guests or spectators.For instance,
entrances and exits at all 3 levels of the main complex have ramps rather than
staircases.
MEDIA COVERAGE
6 Broadcasting cubicles,comprehensively equipped for live radio and TV coverage
as well as transmission of results to editorial offices are at the disposal of media
representatives.Attractively furnished,the media lounge offers a perfect view of the track
and field to facilitate unimpeded observation and recording of events.2 Administrative
offices equipped with computers,telephones,faxes and a photocopier provide the necessary
reporting back-up.
Adjacent cloakrooms as well as a self-contained refreshment facility help to make Bob van Renen
a productive and pleasant amenity for the media.
The scope for full event TV coverage has been enhanced with the
installation of the powerful flood lighting system.
EVENT MANAGEMENT
At the top level of the main pavilion an electronic time keeping system
has been installed,complying fully with Athletics South Africa specifications.
In a dedicated office the official announcer has at his/her disposal a highly
effective public address system with virtually unlimited reach to every room and area in and around the stadium.
Level 3 also houses the control room from which the event organiser can exercise
effective control over the running of sports meetings.From this vantage point the parking area
and most of the stadium is in full view and the security function is also managed
here.
APPEAL,ADMINISTRATION AND STORAGE
At level 2 an appeal room is located.Adequate offices have been provided
for the administration of athletics,cycling and rugby clubs.The stadium
control officer also has his office at this level.
9 Conveniently located storerooms facilitate rapid movement of sport
equipment to and from the field.Adequate space has been provided to ensure
effective lock up,inventory control and safe handling of equipment.
PARTICIPANTS AND OFFICIALS
Bob van Renen's facilities for participants,referees,administrators and medical support staff rank
among the best available at South African sports stadiums.
Located at the bottom level of the pavilion a reception foyer
and comfortable dressing rooms - seperate for ladies and gentlemen - with lockers
are provided for the convenience of participants.Similarly,officials enjoy
a seperate reception,dressing room and lock up conveniences.
The participants' reception area provides ample facilities
for registration,calibrating and assizing apparatus and relaxing away from crowds
before and after the event.Suitably equipped physiotherapy and first aid
rooms ensure the wellbeing of participants.The stadium is a stone's throw
away from 2 hospitals.
A substance control centre,designed to comply with the standards laid down by the International
Athletics Federation and Athletics South Africa,is in operation in the stadium.
It comprises a waiting room,examination room and urine sample room with one way window.
SPORTS CENTRE
As part of the larger Bob van Renen precinct stands a sport centre
serving as the administrative offices of the Sports and Recreation
department of the Krugersdorp Town Council and the headquarters of more than
120 sports and recreation clubs in and around Krugersdorp.
Facilities are available for the holding of meetings,lectures,courses
and seminars.2 Lapas for informal meetings and entertainment are part of the centre.
