As we write this letter our prayer is that you are well and enjoying the blessings of God. It is good to pause and remember all the great things that the Lord provides for us each day- like the old hymn says we should "Count our blessings..." Well we have been truly blessed in many, many ways.
We were able to make a trip back home to see our families both in Mexico and Kansas. It was wonderful to spend time with all of them. We celebrated Nathan's first birthday and Christmas with Letty's family in Santa Ana, Mexico. We returned to Kansas to be with Ken's family for New Year's Eve.
In January we returned to the Dominican Republic and spent the next several weeks making preparations for Haiti Medical Teams International (HMT). This medical team, from Washington state, visits our area once a year. They hold two simultaneous clinics for the two weeks they are here. Their two physicians and two dentists along with a whole staff of nurses, pharmacists, and support personnel treated over 2000 patients.
This team originally worked only in Haiti, thus the name. Several years back during a violent time in Haiti- they began looking for other opportunities to minister in other areas and visited the DR. Their ministry works along with our mission and the local ethnic ministry of the Dominican Free Methodist church. Here in the DR we have about 10 different congregations of Haitian immigrants. HMT works in these Haitian churches. It is always interesting working along with them and the Haitians. During the Sunday morning service one of the Haitian churches, the pastor preached in Haitian Creole, a church leader translated to Spanish, and then Ken translated the message to English.
One of the churches reported that 9 people gave their lives to the Lord during the daily, early morning services before the clinic opened at 8:00. This medical team comes to share their talents with these communities with the goal that the church can utilize the opportunity to share Christ with these people. It is awesome that they come offering their gifts to the Lord and how these gifts are received as a blessing and a witness for Him. I wonder what gifts and talents each of us may have that we can offer to the Lord, let's give Him our abilities and see what He can do with them.
We were blessed in February to be able to replace the 1985 Toyota mission vehicle that we had been driving. A missionary family from another denomination was returning to North America. They were selling everything and the mission was able to buy from them a 1991 Isuzu Rodeo- Praise the Lord along with us!!
We have completed the first half of our two-year assignment and are very thankful for all the support that we receive. It has been truly amazing to be a part of this ministry, but we know that we would not be here if it were not for you and the other faithful supporters. We are so thankful. Please continue to pray for us and this ministry.
Specific Prayer needs:
1. More opportunities to present evangelistic videos.
2. The Haitian immigrants and their churches here in the DR
3. Our continued health.
4. A couple to replace us beginning in 2001.
Again, thank you so much for making this ministry possible through your giving and your prayers, May the Lord overflow His blessings upon you, In Christ,
Ken, Letty and Nathan Myers
