Never be the Same

by Laronda

I couldn't take it anymore. The sadness on her face. I had to tell her I cared. The love-hate relationship with Kid was killing her inside. She meant the world to me as a friend, maybe something more. I walked up to her as she sat on the corral fence facing Sunshine, a new mom with her colt, Little. She had named the colt.

I swallowed hard and touched her shoulder. She jumped, a mixture of surprise and fear.

She smiled at me. She had a beautiful smile. I sat next to her on the fence. "Lou," I started.

Would she care if I said it? My skin was blushing with a fever, red and shivering with goosebumps. "I love you." There, I said it. She looked at me shocked and surprised. She smiled.

"I love you too, Cody." My life would never be the same.
