KOSHUR SAMCHAR, AHMEDABAD & GANDHINAGAR
About Koshur Samchar
I take this opportunity to express my experiences and circumstances under which the then Kashmiri Samiti Ahmedabad was formed in this city. No doubt it was a very difficult job to bring all the members together who were very few in number scattered in all corners of this city. Due to lack of communication it was difficult to come in closer touch with each other. So it became necessary to have personal contacts through which organising different functions, venues etc. were to be decided. It was a very difficult job. But it could be possible only due to the hard efforts of Samiti Secretary Shri Omkar Nath Tickoo. Of course, not to forget the afforts rendered by Shri V. N. Kachru and Late Shri M. N. Kak. The functions used to be generally conducted in Navrangpura area; which suited majority of the members. One incident worth mentioning is a get together on the occasion of Navreh Mubarak in 1967-68 at Picnic House near Kankaria Lake. The members were served with Rogan Josh and bread, followed by Kahwa, and tea, which was liked by one and all, because by that time the membership had increased by almost 4 times. Those were the old times and one had to arrange everything within meagre means. But it used to be managed and every endeavour was made to keep the show on. The association has since then come a long way and is managed by the young and enthusiastic members under a revised name of Koshur Samchar. These young men particularly Shri Arvind Bamzai and Shri Uteesh Dhar and young executives committee members are doing a commendable job in bringing together the Biradari members, making the word "Samchar" more meaningful. I wish them every success in their endeavour. Durga Prasad Dhar 20th October 1998 |
