DRUNKEN MONKEY!!!

So, you're wondering about Drunken Monkey fanzine, huh?

The kid that you see above is me, Greg Monkey. My partner in crime, Patrick, isn't on this page now, but maybe in the near future. Drunken Monkey started out as a side project zine to the zine I was previously writing for, called Poon Tatum. However, some wires got crossed, some differences weren't resolved, and so Drunken Monkey became my full time (ha ha) thing. The first actual interview I did for DM #1 was in September of 1995, with Speedo from the hit band Rocket From The Crypt. I did a whole bunch more interviews, and put out the first issue of Drunken Monkey in November of 1996, with help from my friends Alison and Ben, and the advertising help of Sub Pop Records and Red House Recording Studios. It featured a two part interview with Speedo of Rocket From The Crypt, as well as interviews with Ben Folds Five, Fig Dish, and Possum Dixon. I still haven't sent off some copies of it to people who have ordered it. I know I'll get around to it soon. If I ever earn any money this summer, I will put DM #1 i into it's third (and probably final) printing. I think I put out 100 copies of issue #1 (complete with 50 record reviews and other crazy stuff). If you haven't gotten your copy yet, please email me (drunkenmonkey@juno.com) and yell at me, and I promise I will get it out to you. Sometimes I'm crazy slow at stuff.

A very long time has gone by since the first issue. Blame it on my bout with musical burnout (too many bands, not enough time to actually sit and listen to the bands I want to enjoy). Blame it on my bouts of musical productivity (with a band called The Believe It Or Nots!) and the musical frustration following that. Blame it on whatever, I'm a zine writer with no zine to show for it...only excuses (which I guess every zine writer has to have, so I am down with that part of it all). Apologies to those who deserve them as far as getting your things reviewed, your ads placed, whatever. It will all be corrected in the future. Thanks to those who have faith in the zine, who have helped out, who have cared about it, who have sent things in to review/advertise, and those who have just generally acknowledged my presence. Drunken Monkey is not dead. Just on hiatus.
