WOODSTOCK, Kansas.  Woodstock had a school up until the 1960s, and Woodstock, Kansas had a post office in the 1800s.  Woodstock is still an area.  A community.  Not exactly a town anymore.

Now, all that remains is a treed, brushy area in a field, which couldn't be grazed or farmed completely over due to some of the foundation of the school remaining.  Today, the field belongs to the Ridgway family, who live nearby.

Below is an ownership map showing the bottom of Union township, Jefferson County Kansas in 1899.  At the very bottom it says "School."  That is Woodstock, Kansas.  54th street runs beneath it.  If Woodstock had an address, it would be about  18880 54th Street, McLouth KS  66054.

Here is an 1887 map of Union Township, Jefferson County.  Once again, you can see WOODSTOCK there at the bottom of Union township.

Above is, perhaps a picture of Woodstock School.  The nice book that the Jefferson County Historical Society or the Jefferson County Genealogical Society made about the country schools had  a brief write-up about Woodstock, plus this picture which was on the following page.

Woodstock's school number was 48.   On June 18th 1956, due to GS 1953 Supp 72-83, school number 48, our Woodstock, was "disorganized" and our school became attached to school number 75 JT.  The JT stands for joint.  75 was a joint district that McLouth shared with Leavenworth.  McLouth already had districts 103 and 75.

Sixteen voters had shown up at Woodstockschool building on the evening of June 15th, 1956.  They voted to let Woodstock school be absorbed into 75 JT.

The school building continued to be a community center and a voting place.

Above is a clip from the Lawrence (Kansas) Journal World newspaper, telling of an all-day event held at the Woodstock School.  At the top of this page, there is a link to another page full of Woodstock items from local newspapers.

Below is just a header from the 1875 Kansas census -- Jefferson County, Kansas, Union Township, and the post office serving the people listed was Woodstock.  Was the Woodstock Post Office a discrete building?  Or was it at someone's house?
