I made this page for my DS495 class. I had never ventured into the world of the web until two months or so ago. This came with the purchase of my first home computer. I could hardly use the web let alone create a homepage. Well as you can see I descided to take on the challenge anyway. Little did I know that it would take two months of my time. I had to read , ask , and use trial and error to create what you see before you. There are still alot of things that I do not understand but there are lots of things I now do. It has gotten a little easier as time has moved on.
My first step was to descide on a home in which to create my page. After discussing the issue with a friend of mine who also is new at this computer stuff. I descided to go with Angelfire. Angelfire I think was the right choice. It has been easy for me to use and it works with me.
The next step was deciding what I wanted to make my page about. Having two boa constrictors I decided it would be cool to show the world my two little girls. Well maby not all that little. I love my snakes and I enjoy sharing them with the public.
The third step was figuring out what to do first. I went to Angelfire were I had to enter my homepage name and get a password. At first Angelfire issued me a password through my email. I was able to change it later on. Next I had to read anything and everything I could get my hands on that had to do with html text. I had no idea what html stood for let alone how important it was for creating a web page.
The fourth step was getting started. This was the biggest headache that I had to face. Figureing out how to create headers , background, text color, favorite link sites, and putting your email address at the bottom was easy. Angelfire laid this all out for you.
In the fifth step came the html. I had to learn how to center my script and how to put images on my homepage. This is not as easy as it sounds. It takes trial and error and patience. That is the first time you do it. What I have found is that after you figure out how to do something for the first time. You can look at you previous image and order to remember how to put in your second and so on. Most of my images except for the pictures of my boas and I came from the anglefire grafics center. This is cool. You can go and look at hundreds of images that you can use in your web page!!! This saves a lot of time and effort on your part.
The six step was putting the sound on my page. This was just to much extra time on a saturday morning. Again I got it from the Angelfire homepage. It took a page of html text in order to put that one little sound you hear on my page. The cool thing about was that Angelfire had it all laid out on how to do it. Other than the time it took to find the sound and to write in all the html text. This seemed to be pretty easy task. That might be because most of my page was finished when I added this particular section. That is I knew a little more, than when I first took on the idea.
The seventh step of my homepage was for me to submit it to a search engine. The engine that I chose was the Webcrawler. The Webcrawler is at http://www.webcrawler.com. It was suppose to take to weeks for the page to be findable on the webcrawler. I don't really know if it is there because everytime I go to look for it there are thousands of entries and my is not one of the first ones.
The last step that I have added to my homepage is pictures of my snakes. Well so far the only pictures that I have are of Scarlet when she was a little girl. She has gotten larger since these pictures. This is taking a little time. Angelfire is not very grafic friendly. So I had to use aol homepages to make this section. I just attacked a link to the angelfire from the aol. This means when you click on Scarlets name in the My Boas section of the homepage. You are actually viewing a aol page instead of a Angelfire. I have more pictures to put on but I need to use my easy viewer to down size them before I can put them on. I chose not to downsize the pictures of Scarlet as a baby do to the fact that she was just a baby! This would make it easier for one to get a close up of her colors. Well so far this is all my page has to offer I will be updating it frequently because I still have a lot I want to do. Hope you enjoy what you have seen so far.
