Radio Mods
Cherokee AH-100
Channel Modification: 1: Remove the Back cover. 2: Locate the small curcuit board that has the PTT, up, down, lamp buttons. 3: On the back side of the board, toward the bottom outside edge you'll see three curcuit lands that just END. 4: Solder a bridge across all three curcuit lands. 5: The modification is complete 6: Put the cover back on the transceiver.
- If you have used the radio prior to performing this modification you will have troubles activating the feature. I had to leave my battery removed with the power switch in the ON position, with a shorting jumper across the battery supply clips for 24 hours. This made the microprocessor loose its brain. While leaving the radio power switch in the ON position and holding DOWN the CH9 button, slide the battery pack on the Unit. Remember to kepp holding down the CH9 button for at least 2 seconds after sliding on the Battery. At this time you'll see that the Display is blank, but the receiver is active, when you release the CH9 button the display will return. Now you are there. Using the CH9 button to select bands A, B, C, D, -E is not shown- as it is the normal band, F, G, H, I, J... Thats right 400 Channels. It covers the entire 10 Meter Ham Band!
- At this time, and once you have got this function working, it is only Neccessary to power up the unit using the CH9 button held down to activate the feature, you do not need to drain the battery again and again. In fact if you perform the modification first, before you ever use the unit you may just slide on the pack after doing the mod. Then power up Holding down the CH9 button.
- If you power up the unit without holding down the CH9 button the AH-100 will just operate normally. Just turn it off and power up holding down the CH9 button to reactivate the 10 bands of operation.

1.Remove the case and find the small circuit board (EOT004410Z) connected to the left side of the radio as viewed from the component side of the main chassis. 2.Find the wire that is connected to this circuit board(in step 1)..Remove this wire. 3.Remove the small screw that holds the small board on to the chassis. 4.Under this board you will find a 7 pin plug that is not connected to anything. Insert this plug into the empty socket on the small circuit board. 5.Replace screw back into the small board and close case.

Cobra 148
Expanding the Cobra 148GTL-DX/Superstar 360FM(PB010)
Clip off the YELLOW, WHITE, & PINK wires from the ch.9 panel switch. Reconnect WHITE & PINK together for normal LED channel display. Cut off the GRAY wire from the HI/LO TONE panel switch. Remove the grounding jumper at pin 9 of the MC145106 PLL chip. Connect a small bare wire between the center terminals of the now free poles of the CH.9 & TONE switches. Add the two 1N914 diodes and additional switch wiring as shown below The extra frequencies will now appear in the Ch.12-40 positions of the CHANNEL SELECTOR with the BAND selector in the HIGH position. (The first 11 channels are repeats of existing channels.)The "ch9" position activates the expansion. In the LO TONE position you will get 28.195 Mhz (ch.12) to 28.495(ch.40).if you pull IC7 pins 4 & 2 HIGH at the same time you will get coverage up to 28.705 Mhz. This would need a three position switch.

CHANNEL TWEAKS:
I have found that the easiest way to do this without hacking your radio with a lot of switches is to install the EXPO 100 kit "L" expander kit. This is an excellent kit and installs quickly with very little tools. This way you don't have to fumble around trying to remember which switch goes where, etc... You can get these from my links above, or e-mail me.

CLARIFIER:
1. Cut one side of R44 and D52. Remove R174 and solder a jumper wire in its place. 2. Follow the RED WIRE from the clarifier control to where it connects to the PC board and cut it loose. 3. Solder this RED WIRE to the circuit board ground. NOTE: Some radios have a YELLOW WIRE instead of the RED WIRE. 4. Follow the ORANGE WIRE from the clarifier control to where it connects to the PC board and UNSOLDER it. 5. Resolder this ORANGE WIRE to pin 3 of the MB3756 regulator. With any luck, you should slide about 5Kz down and 1Kz up.

Resolder this ORANGE WIRE to pin 3 of MB3756 Regulator. NOTE: Some radios have different colored wires on the clarifier control. They are: YELLOW instead of ORANGE RED instead of BLUE If all goes well, you should slide about 4 down and 1 up.

WANT MORE SLIDE??
1. Remove D51 and put in a jumper. 2. Install a "super-diode" in place of the stock varactor D35. 3. Add a 4.7uh to 10uh choke to the banded-end of the stock varactor.

VARIABLE ADJUSTMENTS:
AM POWER: VR6 SSB POWER: VR7 MODULATION: TR-32 or cut R104 PEAK: L36 BIAS: VR8,VR9 SQUELCH: VR2 TX METER: VR10 RX METER: VR1 Need more receive??? Replace C38 (2 pf capacitor) with a 1pf capacitor.

CLARIFIER:
1. Remove D36 and R187 2. Follow the RED WIRE and the ORANGE WIRE from the clarifier control to the circuit board, and UNSOLDER them. 3. Re-solder the RED WIRE to pin 3 of MB3756 regulator or to + side of C66 capacitor. (located behind the pll chip) 4. Re-solder the ORANGE WIRE to the circuit board ground. 5. Jumper d35. 6. Re-align center slot by adjusting CT3. If you done it correctly, you should slide approx. 4kc down and 1kc up. Need MORE slide??? Install a 5.6uH choke on the banded-end (grounded-end) of the varactor diode.(D37) or replace varactor with a super-diode.

CHANNEL TWEAK #1:
1. Replace 11.1125 crystal with a 11.3258 crystal. 2. Isolate pin #10 on the pll chip from the circuit board ground by cutting the pc trace. 3. Install a switch so you can ground pin #10 on the pll chip. This will give 27.605 to 28.045. 4. Install a switch so you can jump pins #11 and #12 on the pll chip. This will give 26.815 to 26.965. 5. Using the switch combination of steps 3 and 4 above, will give coverage from 27.455 to 27.605.

CHANNEL TWEAK #2:
