Recollections of past campaigns.

During a skirmish with the enemy in Wyandotte County, KS, the Chicken Neck's started coining phrases to use on the march and on the field to describe happenings in the mess.
•Burning Ankles -- A common occurance around the camp fire when the barefooted boys huddle for warmth. Leg hair often catches fire.
•Dave's fork -- A highly worshipped eating utensil that never leaves Dave's side. An eating utensil, comb, finger nail cleaner, back scratcher, tent stake, and deadly weapon.
•Grease Bubble -- Often eaten. The bubble is formed from pouring eggs into a boiling plate of bacon grease. Tasty.
•If you can't do it, Boyd will. -- A phrase common around the campfire, especially when trying to light that campfire.
•I'm working on it! -- Common phrase used as a reply to commands issued to the Kansas Rifles. The phrase is also heard when a tired bedfellow tries to stop a tired comrad from snoring.
•Mid Afternoon snack -- Often a few ants that are found in the haversack. Common practice is a small ritual honoring the "insect god" before devouring the morsels.
•Rain gutter -- A hastily dug trench to divert water from the shit bang. Cups, forks, branches, and hats are used in its contruction.
•Sharpshooters -- A four man group, two with rifles, one with a pistol, and the last armed with a heavy blunt stick. Beware the stick carrier!
•Shit Bang -- The usual home of the Rifles, an intense maze of blankets, sticks, ramrods, forks, knives, rifles, and other "foraged items" that form a crude sleeping area.
• Snowflakes -- A rebel soldier adorning the white issue uniform. Also see: Targets
•Targets -- Members of any unit portraying the iron brigade or the white clad members of the Missouri Brigade.
•You don't even know! -- Favorite reply when T.J. and Dave are questioned about being shoeless. Also heard describing other varied opinions about the brass and targets.
•Nifkin -- Can't tell you what it means, but it's a very versitile word.
•Bad Reenactor Theatre -- The greatest show ever put on by two men, Rob Hodge and Ryan Meyer. This was first whitnessed by the Chicken Necks at RR2. Consider yourself lucky if you ever do see it.
