"You guys are pathetic!" Danielle shrieked. "You're my friends, but you're pathetic!"
Danielle was arguing with her friends, Ashley, Dawn, and Elizabeth. They claimed that they had "mental connections" with Hanson. They said that they could teleport to wherever Hanson happened to be.
"It is real! Why don't you believe that a person could know someone like that?" Dawn shot back, as quietly as she could at the moment.
They were trying to be quiet because they were at school. They were in band, and there was only five minutes left in class. They didn't want the entire class to think that they were crazy, although Danielle already thought that they were. She was actually kind of worried about them.
"Dawn, I might have believed you if you said that you had met them, or that you were friends with them, possibly even if you said that you were going out with them, but what you are saying is crazy, pathetic, obsessive, and desperate. Having a boyfriend doesn't make you cool. Making one up sure as hell doesn't. Especially when you say something totally off the wall like you did, that proves to people that your so-called boyfriend isn't really. I don't have a boyfriend, but I don't have to make up a "mental connection" with a famous person to feel good about myself! I must admire you improvisational skills though. I mean, you come up with all of this very creative stuff, but you never argue about what's going on, and if you do slip up in your little act, you do a hell of a job covering it up…." Danielle trailed off at the end. The bell had rung, and everyone was gone except for the four girls.
"Um Danielle? The bell rang, could we finish this another time?" Ashley said.
"Whatever. You know you're making the whole thing up. It was fun at the beginning, but now it's going a bit too far. I'm beginning to think that you actually believe what you are saying. I don't understand how anyone could be so obsessive and desperate. I don't really see any point in continuing this conversation, because obviously it isn't getting anywhere. Nobody believes you, even if you are under the impression that they do. We all feel pretty much the same way," Danielle said and stormed out the door.
There were other people in their group of friends, and three of them were in band. They just weren't there that day. Maryanne, Marie, and Risa were the three that were gone. Dawn F. and Sarie weren't in band.
Dawn, Elizabeth, and Ashley stood there baffled. This was a side of Danielle that they had never seen before. They finally snapped out of it, and walked out the door and on to reading, their next and last class.
"What got into her? I thought that she believed us," Dawn commented.
"No. She never did believe us. She just told you and Elizabeth that to get you off her back about it," Ashley replied. Ashley and Dawn went to reading and, basically, ignored Danielle for the rest of the day. Danielle didn't mind though. It was yo be expected that they would get mad at her for destroying their illusion. She just went on and finished the day, and tried to enjoy it as much as possible.
"Hello?" Danielle said into the phone.
"Hi, is Danielle there?"
"Speaking, who is this?"
"Hey Dani! It's Jenifer! What's up?!"
"Jen! What happened to you? I haven't heard anything from you in like 2 years! Where've ya been?"
"Well, it's a really long story. My family is going to be in town next week with some friends, and I just thought I might tell you so you could warn the town..."
They both broke out into fits of laughter. A couple minutes later, Dani's mom came upstairs and said, "What's going on up here? Who's on the phone?"
"Mom, it's Jenifer! Her and her family are gonna be in town next week!"
"It's 'her family and she', and that's great honey! Tell them that they can stay here if they want. We have those three bedrooms that we don't use. They can sleep there."
"Didja hear that? Mom said that you can stay ato our house if you want!"
"Well, you see, we're not traveling alone, umm, some, friends, of ours are coming with us, and we already made hotel reservations anyway. I might be able to stay though."
"Okay. What hotel were you planning to stay at dear?" Danielle's mom had picked up the extention.
"Mom! Get off the phone!" Danielle shouted down the stairs.
"That's okay. We're staying at Holiday Inn. It's the only hotel that had enough rooms open for all of us."
"Geez! How many of you are there?"
"Well, let's see, there's me, Mom, Dad, Chris, and Kaitie, then there's nine of our friends, so I guess that makes foruteen. It's a big clan."
"Okay, I guess you WON'T all fit in our house! That's okay, we can still hang out."
Danielle walked over to her CD player and put in 'Live From Albertane' while Jen continued to talk about Tulsa. Then she paused and listened for a while.
"Hey, what is that you are listening to?"
"It's you silly! Oh, you mean on the CD player...it's 'Live From Albertane'"
"You like Hanson? Somehow I didn't think that you would."
"Yeah,i like Hanson, and so do Dawn, Elizabeth, and Ashley. To the point that they are trying to get us to believe that they have 'mental connections' with them. We just got into a big fight about it a couple weeks ago."
"What do you mean they think they have mental connections with them? Like they know when something's wrong with them or something like that?"
"No, they say that they talk to them and are going out with them. Get this, they can also teleport to wherever the brothers happen to be. I know they're wacky, but I can't figure out a way to prove it to THEM so they will stop believing it themselves so that they don't go totally crazy."
"Hmm... who is connected with whom?"
"Okay, here's the line up. Geez, I sound like a sports announcer! Anyway, it goes: Dawn-Ike, Elizabeth-Tay, and Ashley-Zac. Ashley didn't used to believe it, but I think they kinda sucked her in."
"Well, I think I just might be able to help you. Hang on."
Danielle sat there listening to the words of 'Ever Lonely' Soon, Jen came back to the phone, and Danielle could hear other people on the line. It was obvious that they were trying to keep from laughing.
"Okay! I......we're back!"
"Who's WE?"
"Guys, would you like to introduce yourselves?"
"I'm Isaac," said the first voice.
"I'm Taylor," said the second voice.
"I'm Zac," said the third voice.
"Umm, Jen? What is going on? Who are they really?"
"They're Hanson. I think that they will be able to clear up any 'mental connections' with themselves..."
"Sure, whatever. You are trying to tell me that you know Hanson?"
Well, the boys, hearing the sarcasm in Dani's voice, started singing along with the music that they heard in the background, which was now 'Wth You In Your Dreams'. They sounded very much like themselves, of course, and Dani just stared at the CD player then back at the phone, then back to the CD player, then back to the phone.....
"Satisfied?" Jen said when the song was over.
"Yeah, but could you explain this to me?"
"Sure. We live across the street from them in Tulsa, and they have become really good friends of ours. We usually travel with them. That's who we're coming with. They're doing a concert next Friday at Sandstone."
"Yeah, I know about the concert. I'm going!"
"Hey, kool. Where are you sitting?" Taylor asked.
"Umm...I'm not sure...I'd have to go down stairs and get the tickets."
"Oh, okay. Well, we have to go practice. Bye!" said Isaac, followed by Zac and Taylor.
"Jen, how come you never told me!!! This is awesome. You think I could like, meet them in person?"
"Well, I had planned on us all hanging out together, so, of course!! You kinda have to meet them if you are going to hang out with them! And, if my plan to undermind Dawn, Elizabeth, and Ashley is going to work!"
"Oh yeah, what is you plan anyway?"
"Well, I was thinking that when we get there, we can all (me and the guys) come over to your house, and work out what everyone is going to do, then invite our crazy friends over."
"Do Ike, Tay, and Zac know about this?"
"Yeah, that's why they were laughing at the beginning of the conversation."
"Okay, just wanted to make sure. This is going to be funny."
"Well, I'm kinda running up the phone bill. I have to go now. C-ya next week!!"
"Okay! Bye!!"
They hung up, and immediately, Danielle called the whole group and told them that Jen was coming back with her family. Whe didn't tell them who they were traveling with, because she didn't want their plan to get out.
For the next 4 days, Dani was giddy. Yes, giddy. Nobody knew why she was so...giddy...Everyone knew that Jenifer was coming back next week, but Dani wouldn't be so on edge just because of that. Finally, everyone just started ignoring it.
~*~*the day that Jen comes*~*~
Danielle was sitting on her porch swing reading a magazine. She hadn't thought to ask Jenifer when they going to come over, so she had been sitting in that swing reading mags all afternoon. It was a really nice day out, and she would have much rather been blading or doing something like that, but she wanted to be there when Jen showed up. Oh well, she could go blading with Jen when she got there.
A couple minutes later, a red van pulled up into her driveway. Jen got out, followed by Isaac, Taylor, and Zac. Jens parents got out too, and went into the house while the five teenagers got acquainted and sat on the porch.
"So, I understand that you have three obsessive friends," Isaac said in the best cheesy British acent that he could muster up without laughing.
"Why, as a matter of fact, I do," Dani said through giggles. "Jen, can I talk to you for a minute?"
"Sure. Let's go around back."
Jen and Dani got up and walked around the back of the house and sat on edge of Dani's swimming pool.
"Okay, this is really weird. Did you already tell them the story about Dawn, Ashley, and Elizabeth?"
"Yeah. Now, we just have to invite them over. I was thinking, like to go blading or something. We all have our blades in the van. They could..." she was cut off by Dani.
"Okay, okay. Let's go back now."
They went back around to the porch, but Ike, Zac, and Tay were nowhere to be found.
"Maybe they went inside. Let's go check."
Sure enough, there was Isaac and Zac sitting in the living room. They were playing Tomb Raider 3 on the Playstation.
"Where's Tay?" Jen asked.
"He came in to go to the bathroom. Danielle's mom sent him upstairs, because someone was using the one down here."
"I hope he doesn't accidentally wander into my room..." Danielle whispered to Jen.
"Ahhhh!!!" someone shouted from up the stairs. Soon, Tay came galloping down the stairs. "Lots...of...us..."
The remaining four kids burst out in laughter. Taylor just glared at them, then started laughing too. Soon, the laughter had stopped, and Danielle turned beet red.
Taylor noticed, and said, "What's wrong Dani?"
"Oh, nothing..." she replied, sheepishly.
"Taylor, what were you doing upstairs? I thought you went to the bathroom. Why were you in Dani's room?" Jen questioned.
"Oh, that was your room...sorry...the door was open, and I kinda tripped over your cat in the hallway, and that's the way that I fell," Taylor said with a grin. "So, I take it thay you like us?" he teased.
"No, I think that you should all fall off the face of the earth. I decided that if I collect enough pictures of you, I can set some kind of voodoo spell on them and then rip them to shreds, one...by...one..." Dani shot back sarcastically. Then she smiled, to make sure that they all got the joke. "Well, since Tay's seen my room, I might as well show all of you. Let's go!"
Dani led tem all up the stairs and into her room. Isaac's mouth dropped open, and Zac nearly fainted. Her walls were plastered with Hanson posters. On one wall, she had hung a Hanson t-shirt.
"Okay, now I know why Tay screamed. Any unsuspecting person would scream if they walked into a room and saw their face plastered all over the wall..." Isaac said.
"Correction, fell into a room..." Tay defended.
"Whatever." Isaac said.
"Okay, now we all know why Tay screamed, can we figure out what we're going to do about Dawn, Ashley, and Elizabeth?" Dani said.
Jen wallked over to a bean bag and sat down. "Sure. Can we stay inside though? It's getting really hot out there."
"Okay. As long as everyone will stop screaming. I know that it's a litte overwhelming when you first walk in here, but you'll get used to it. I really only use them to cover up my nasty wall paper...well, not really, but it's an excuse ain't it?"
"Okay, just as long as you aren't....obsessed..." Zac said.
"Well, I'm not screaming, now am I? I enjoy your group very much, but that doesn't mean that I'm obsessed. You will meet some obsessed people in a while. Enjoy your non-obsessive fan while you can...."
They planned the whole thing out, and decided that they would invite the obsessed trio, as they had started calling them, rather than to say all of their names, over to go rollerblading. Everyone would be inside the house, and Dani would answer the door when they got there. Then one of the guys would walk out of the kitchen...plan activated....
~*~*a week later*~*~
It was Saturday, so Danielle was just sitting around her house, trying top find someting to do. She ws going through all of her old letters(she keeps ALL of them), and she found a couple from her friend, Jenifer who had to move to some town in Oklahoma. Oh, yes, it's on the letter, Tulsa. Anyway, she hadn't heard from Jen for a couple of years. "Hmm, maybe I'll call her..." she thought. Two seconds later, the phone rang.
