Performance Task
Goal: You will be assigned a group project to work on collaboratively that deals with exercise, diet and nutritional science. Then, your group will complete an end product as an assessment. Several lessons will provide the information needed to complete this project successfully. You will have to utilize computer support to produce your end product. Samples of your end product will be provided.
Role: At the conclusion of the exercise and diet unit, you must use your knowledge to complete a group project. Each of you will have a portion of the project to work on; however, your input is expected on all parts of your group’s final product. Individual roles within your group will be decided on with help from the teacher to help you get started. In addition to using your knowledge from the lessons, you must solicit additional resources from web sites, books, magazines, etc. to complete your end product.
Audience: Groups will be able to collaborate with each other throughout the project. Groups may submit their end product to an online exercise or nutrition web site for review and possible publication.
Situation: The exercise and diet unit will focus on fat loss and muscle building diet/exercise plans that would assist someone searching for information on how to accomplish these goals. Your group’s end product would be a great tool to help accomplish one of these goals.
Product: A the conclusion of the unit, your group will use computer technology to answer one of the following essential questions as evidence of learning:
- What type of exercise plan would someone need to follow if their goal was to lose body fat?
- What type of exercise plan would one need to follow if their goal was to build muscle?
- What type of diet plan would one need to follow if their goal was to lose body fat?
- What type of diet plan would someone need to follow if their goal was to gain muscle?
I will assign a question from above and end product for your group from the following choices:
- PowerPoint Presentation
- Poster
- Magazine Article
- Meal plan for 1 week (7 days)
Samples for each end product will be provided below. Groups are expected to collaborate on this project. Individual roles should be assigned within the group as a route to putting all information together to formulate your end product. I will check in with groups frequently to assure proper participation. For your research, you may use internet sources, books, magazines, journals, or interviews with knowledgeable sources. After completing this assessment and collaborating with other groups, you should acquire a solid understanding of the essential questions which accompany this unit. All sources used must be documented.
Standards/Criteria: Your success with this project is determined and measured by research, content accuracy, group participation (both social and personal), and creativity. These criteria will provide evidence of learning and successful group work towards a common goal. Here is a grading rubric to keep you on the right track:
