It is important to note that in the case of hail, wind or rainfall we will assume that they are estimated unless the word
"measured" is used in the report.
HOW TO REPORT (T E L E system)
- Effects, such as wall cloud or hail
- Location, such as the closest intersection
- Estimated or measured
WHAT TO REPORT
Wall clouds with rotation
Hail 1/2 inch or larger.
Any hail accumulations that pose a hazard or could cause flooding.
Sustained wind speeds (15 seconds) greater than 50 MPH.
30 MPH = moving large branches
Rain fall greater than 1 inch per hour.
Flooding that poses a hazard and where it doesn't normally occur.

1/4" = pea size
1/2" = dime
3/4" = penny size
1" = quarter size
1 3/4" = golfball size
2 3/4" = baseball size
35 MPH = moving whole trees
40-55 MPH = twigs breaking off trees
55-70 MPH = Small trees uprooted. Slight structural damage
72+ = Major structural damage. Large trees uprooted.
