My name is Karen Christiansen. I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, which is where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. I am currently a student at Pensacola Junior College. I am applying to the Registered Nursing program that is offered at PJC. I hope that my education and life experiences will help me to better relate to any future patients that I may have once I become a Registered Nurse.

My Education

When I was 3 years old, my parents enrolled me in a private school called Aurora Gardens Academy. I attended AGA from pre-school through 8th grade.  I then went on to Saint Mary's Dominican High School, an all girls, Catholic high school. After graduation, I attended the University of Southern MIssissippi in Hattiesburg, where I studied music performance.  I was there for two semesters when I decided I want to go back home and attend the University of New Orleans.  It was there that I earned my Bachelors degree in Sociology.  Now, I am enrolled at Pensacola Junior College, where I am applying to the Registered Nursing program that begins in January 2008.

My Work History

My very first job was at Smoothie King in the New Orleans Center.  I started that job right after I graduated from high schoollI worked there that summer and then on weekends when I would come home from Southern Miss.  I continued to work there for about another year.  I stopped working there because of conflicts with my school schedule.  Then, in December of 2001, I started working at French Quater Diaquiris, a place that a very good friend of mine managed.  I worked there 3 nights a week while I was still in school.  I remained a bartender until I finished college at UNO.  In 2005, I moved to Pensacola, Florida and started working at People's First Community Bank.  It was a part time teller position.  I worked at that bank for about five months when a much better opportunity came along.  I took a ful time position at Navy Federal Credit Union.  I really liked working there but in December of 2006, I had to quit work due to complications with my pregnancy.

What I Am Doing Now

I have been married to my wonderful husband for almost two years.  We have a beautiful baby girl named Alivia. She was born on March 29, 2007 and she is just the greatest person I have ever met.  Aliva is my world.  Eventhough being a full time mommy does take up most of my time, I decided this past summer that I am finally going to persue the Registered Nursing degree that I have wanted for so long.  I am also in the processes of appyling for a part time position with the United States Postal Service. (Hopefully I will get the position so that I can spend most of my paycheck buying toys for Christmas!)

My Future Plans

I hope to get my Nursing Degree in the very near future.  I would really like to work in Labor and Delivery or in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.   I plan on having more children eventually....well maybe just one more but until I am dine with the RN program. I will probably stay in Pensacola for a little while but I have full intentions of moving back to New Orleans where I would still be a nurse.  After that, I'm not really too sure. I guess I'll go where ever the road takes me.
