Perfection in peace Red-breasted bird sits Still as stone, on stone near lake, And stares. Red, blue, grey. Sky seeking green trees Reach into low mist serene To where truth may be. Grey cliffs cringe before Lightning, and thunder shakes stones That slither in rain. Hot sun tries to melt Stones that glare skeletal white Against golden sand. Cat slithers in morning Dew bespattering the earth Brown and damp below. Beyond moon's cold gleam Stars prick the dark secrets of The Universal. Baby cries far off Mother hears and mother fears -Arms enfolding love. Old man grimaces In knifing cold of keen frost And still breathes soft clouds. Willow branches dip To sip water near the stream But still fail to touch. Girl enfolds boy's love, Boy catches her sweet perfume He is trapped in love. Fish sparkles on line And hook, wriggling silver flash Scattering diamonds. (c) SER 2000
