Deep dark eyes see all in innocence
no question there
acceptance
This is how the world is...dirt and flies, AIDS and thirst.
Do we care that it isn't fair?
This child will die with dirt and flies, AIDS and thirst.
The Agency wires carry the picture forth
The world sees
it flees from truth, this child will die
With dirt and flies, AIDS and thirst.
First world looks at Third world through tired
eyes
They've seen it all before,
knowing this
Child will die with dirt and flies, AIDS and thirst.
The Bankers, Industrialists, and Politicians
Will utter disconnected platitudes of intent
cough up tax evasion sums, and mutter
Sunday prayers
-
No Third world debt can be cancelled,
We never mean to hurt our pockets,
We come first else they will sink,
Without our economic aid there can be no Macdonalds,
Nor military support for friendly juntas,
We help just where we can.
We cannot afford the bill for drugs
for AIDS
This child will die
With dirt and flies, AIDS and thirst.
Yet for a moment, she peers out for a kindness,
Loving arms and kisses,
Milk and no diarrhoea,
A tickle behind the ear
That's not a fly,
Laughter and fresh water
In all innocence,
Waiting to die with dirt and flies,
AIDS and thirst
