Introduction to Site

Literature of China:

China,a huge country with more than 5000 years of civilization, has been the nest of great literary works, both ancient & modern. The ancient classics influenced one another & also influenced future works,In short, the impact of Chinese literature of all ages has lasted till now, influencing Chinese culture, history, tradition & way of life. The West would probably see it as irrelevant but the exoticism of the Orient remains a fascination for the scholars & there is no harm in learning more about another culture for the sake of general knowledge.Nonetheless,it has remained important to the Chinese,as a source to the finding of their roots, their origins & history.

Significance of the Site's Name:

The name of this site 'Literature from The Descendants of the Dragon' has a meaning to it.The Chinese call themselves 'Long de chuan ren' which means 'descendants of the dragon'.The dragon is believed to be the symbol of the Chinese race,a motif of the emperor who has the mandate to rule by Heaven's will. The Son of Heaven 'tian tzu' as he is known,is thus connected with the heavenly dragon, thought to be the ancestor of the Yellow Emperor (refer to Myths & Legends for more info),the ancestor of the Chinese people. Thus the Chinese refer themeselves as such. This might sound weird to the West since dragons are seen as evil creatures that should be slayed by knights.Nonetheless, the aim of the site is to enable people worldwide to know more about Chinese literature & in turn obtain some knowledge of Chinese culture.Sadly,Chinese literature is a genre that is ignored by many, especially by the younger generation of Chinese.

--There are 4 ways of doing so.

(A)After coming to theMain page:

1.Easiest & fastest method:

--> By clicking on the linkChinese Literature, you'll see the Content Page.
-->Then go to the specific topic area by clicking on the link for the desired topic, classified according to the dynasties. For example,if you are looking for Tang dynasty Literature, then please click on Tang Dynasty Literature & you'll reach the page on Tang literature.

-->Then if you wish, you can continue surfing through the site by using either the Previous Page & Next Page links or just click on the links provided in the '~(Index of Site)~' found at the end of each page.

-->To know what the previous & next pages are, just move your cursor, using the mouse, over the links (pictures of dragons) & the address of the next page would be shown in the status bar at the bottom of the window screen, with the term in front of '.html' being the name of the dynasty/subject the next page's material would be on.For example,if the address displayed is ' http://pages.whowhere.com/arts/wen.teo/tang.html ',when the cursor of the mouse is placed over the dragon picture/link that says 'Enter Next Page',then the next page would be on Tang literature,as given by the term in front of '.html'.If the cursor is over the link 'Return to Previous Page',then the earlier page is on Tang literature.

-->Another method to use the 'Previous/Next Page' links is to match it with the corresponding link arranged in numerical order of pages,in the '~(Index of Site)~'.The second link in the list is Chinese Literature:Content Page,so it is the 2nd page of the site.

-->Or just click away on the 'Previous/Next Page' links.
