There were a number of snapshots of cadet functions, some of are of quite good quality, others a bit fuzzy...

As I said, some of Doug's photos had comments on the back, that I have used as a title.  Again, these are highlighted in red so I don't get blamed for anything, well at least not for that particular comment.

bum inspection
Here Brian Babb, Ross Kemball and Steve May are performing the ritual inspection of the cadet's uniforms at the beginning of some special parade.  Given recent revelations, the caption on the back of the print was unintentionally? ironic.  However, in fairness it is Brian and Ross who appear to be performing the activity suggested by the caption. Steve May actually seems to be examining the collars to determine whether the creases are of acceptable sharpness.

The scan of this print was not one of my best efforts and I can't ID anyone with certainty, since I have long since returned the original photos.  I think it's David Oliver with the bugle under his arm and the officer in the background is surely Steve May.  However, I don't remember David, or anyone, blowing a bugle on a regular basis, or that the drummer was a regular feature of parades.  I would welcome clarification of these questions.  Strangely, in a box in my basement I do have a whitened leather chap-like thingie that the drummer wore to protect his leg.  Maybe it's the one barely visible in this picture?

The scans of these two photos were also not particularly good, so it's difficult to identify many of the principals. In the first shot, Terry Phillips is leading the division suggesting that he was the PO in charge.  Ian St James, Gene Smith and John Baxter, are the cadets in the front rank, but the cadets behind are not recognizable.  In the second picture, Brian Babb is the officer now leading the division, but the composition of the front rank has changed.  John is still there, but Ian and Gene are not.  Perhaps for some reason they didn't want to follow immediately behind Brian.

Except for the astigmatism at the edges, this is a much better scan of the cadets who were marching in the pictures above.  Here, they are standing at ease in front of the main building.  I'm not certain what vintage this is, but it must be circa 1960 since I see JC Girodo in the ranks.

L to R.  ? , Andy Bayliss?, Ian, Peter Donaldson, John Ironside, the peeking face looks vaguely like George Vipond but there's not enough for me to be sure of that, Terry Phillips is front and centre, JC, Peter Barton-Slater.  After that the only guys I was able to ID were Lawrence Lambert and Gene Smith in the front rank.

I know that I've shown a lot of photos of cadet activities and these ones are mildly repetitive, but it was a major deal for us boys.  Anyway, these ones illustrate my contention that once the uniforms went on, the main activities were marching and standing around.
