Wai Xing Zhan Shi 2

This document set is a work in progress and may be edited later.

Please note that the game is in Chinese and I do not read or speak Chinese. I have taken some liberties with the names of places, skills, techs, items and characters for the sake of simplicity and convenience. For the most part I will be using the English language names from the original 16 bit Sega Genesis version. So please forgive any mistakes. I have named the equipment by number in the Charts section to make things easier on myself as I went through the game. But if you find that confusing you can go by price. It's very reliable

If you can read Chinese you will definitely enjoy playing this game more. However, if you have already played the original you should not have too many problems with the language barrier. Many things are the same or similar enough that you can get by. But there are places where you can get stuck or confused due to the differences between this pirate version and the original. I haven't seen a FAQ/Walkthrough for Wai Xing Zhan Shi 2 floating around so I thought I'd make one. This is the first FAQ/Walkthrough that I've ever done that wasn't solely for my own personal use. I never thought the maiden voyage would be for a game like this.

Wai Xing Zhan Shi 2 is a Chinese pirate version of Phantasy Star 4 that was released in 1996 for the Famicom by Waixing Computer & Technology. While this version is called Wai Xing Zhan Shi 2 there are several other versions with different names and title screens. This one seems to be the most complete, with better gameplay balance and less bugs. This FAQ/Walkthrough is based on that version. I have heard that other versions of the game may simply end at certain points. The version I used is the complete game. Since the game is modified for the 8 bit Famicom system it is noticeably different in many ways and the graphics, music, gameflow and certain mechanics are pared down to accommodate the hardware limitations.

For reference the emulator I am using is VirtuaNES. It is possible that some of the bugs and issues I encountered are emulator specific. I haven't tried this ROM with any other emulators so I don't know how well it runs on those. I assume that most emulators should be fine.
