This looks like a case where someone literally the translation. As far as I know Guy's name isn't mistranslated anywhere else in the game. But here Arty forgot how to spell and we all can have a laugh over it.
As for Arty, in Japan his name is Artea and this was fixed for the remake on the DS. Not sure why it was changed in the first place though. If Maxim fits then Artea should too. And it's not like only Maxim was allowed to have five characters in his name. Because Lexis' name also has five. Yeah, you're not that special Maxim. :P
I don't know if Artea is supposed to be pronounced the same as Arty. If so, then it was probably changed to make the pronunciation a little more obvious. Unless it's more like "Artia" and that sounded too girly and too close to Tia.
Well either way it's hard to nitpick just one translation choice in this game. There are just so many to choose from.
