My journal

Thank you for visiting my journal. First I wanna briefly point out some facts about myself. I'm 29 yrs. old, live in Philadelphia, PA. I just remarried one month ago (Dec. 18, 2002). My husband is 36 and wonderful, gorgeous, cheerful, silly and supportive. I don't have any children but would like to experience motherhood within 2 years. I'm a Social Worker for DHS but currently taking a leave of absence due to fibroids which cause severe pain. My degree is in Fashion Merchandising and I have big plans to use it in the near future. Believe it or not, my weight is a big obstacle in the retail buying industry.

My mother came to stay with us to help out because there are limits to what I can do around the house now. It's working out so great for all of us that we've decided to find a bigger place and permanently live together. My mother is the best mother in the world. Don't we all say that :o) No, but mine really is. She's always been the smartest, most beautiful lady inside and out. I emphasize L-A-D-Y. She's never thought twice about putting the needs of her family before her own. She never made me feel inadequate or ashamed of my weight. Just the opposite - no one can convince me that I'm not the best looking thing walking.

After years of believing I would never resort to something as extreme as WLS, here I am! At 320 lbs. with Rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, and anemia - I'm more than ready for serious change.

I've been overweight all my life unlike many who just pick up pounds after having children. I've tried most products and programs but to no avail. The most weight I've ever lost was about 10 lbs. I believe my main dish was lettuce at that time. Therapy has revealed that my weight can be caused by several factors including a traumatic experience at age 4, a car accident at age 4, or heredity - my mother and father are both overweight. I can tell you that I my food habits vary week by week. Some weeks I barely eat and skip lots of meals. Some weeks I overeat. Overeating for me is eating two helpings of dinner, or eating the entire pint of shrimp fried rice with 4 chicken wings. No, I've never been able to gulf down a half gallon of ice cream. I rarely eat ice cream. Nor do I eat a pound of bacon with 5 stack pancakes. Most overweight people don't.

Carnie Wilson's success and advocacy of WLS really opened my eyes and changed my attitude toward this option of weight loss. However, it was after two of my friends had such great success with this surgery that I began to really consider this for myself. Then I began countless searches of WLS Journals, Websites and news articles to really make my determination. Attending an orientation given by Dr. Van Rueden at Lankenau Hospital really excited me and I know this is the way to go for me.

I hope everyone that reads my journal gets emotional fulfillment, information or at least entertainment out of your time.
