We are Mailers...

We work in the mailing room of a newspaper. No.. not where the post office delivers mail, but where the newspapers are sent after being printed on the press. We put inserts inside the newspapers, address papers to be mailed (yes, through the post office) to customers, count the papers in bundles so each carrier gets the correct amount of papers for their customers for that day and then we tie the bundles and send them out to the truck drivers who deliver them to the carriers. We have 2 foremen who manage the mailroom operation, 8 fulltime mailers who belong to the Teamsters Union and around 15 partime people who help on the inserting machines. When I started working in the mailroom in 1965, we did most things by hand, put inserts in by hand, addressed the newspaper by hand, pulled the papers off the conveyors by hand (which we still do from time to time when our stacker breaks down).

Below are links to some old items used in a mailing room.
Some are still used... most are not!
