The first two are the most interesting. The first abstract is a rather old one but was referenced to in the recent The New Yorker magazine article. The second is interesting as it proposes erythrophobia as a subtype of social phobia (this seems consistent with the many people on the internet that argue they are not shy just socially phobic/anxious about their FB/FF). The rest are here mainly to demonstrate the scant research done on erythrophobia (& amusing keyword associations). A medline search for blush would turn up hundreds of interesting articles including of course ETS articles.
ETS was first indicated for palmar & craniofacial hyperhidrosis which when severe, chronic & unrelated to social anxiety is accepted as just a physical problem of an overactive Sympathetic Nervous System. Now problematic blushing is also considered a primary indication for ETS but the controversy continues about whether this is merely a symptom of social anxiety or just another physical problem of an overactive Sympathetic Nervous System. Some ETS surgeons now even consider these physical symptoms of social phobia/anxiety & panic an indication when -not- remedied by other means irrespective of whether it was acquired through an emotional conditioning/mental illness or inherited genetically.

Treatment of erythrophobia by paradoxical intention. |
J Nerv Ment Dis 1978 Apr;166(4):304-6 (ISSN: 0022-3018)
Lamontagne Y [Find other articles with this Author]
A 25-year-old male was treated by paradoxical intention for erythrophobia that had been present for 12 years. Severe blushing episodes decreased from 28 during the month preceding treatment to three during treatment; there were never more than two severe blushing episodes per month during the 6-month follow-up. The mean duration of each severe episode was 13 minutes before treatment, 8 minutes during treatment, and varied from 4 to 9 minutes during follow-up. Although this treatment is easy for both the patient and therapist, it is important that the patient be highly motivated. A good relationship with the therapist and the use of humor can enhance the therapeutic efficacy of paradoxical intention.

Introduced as a separate diagnostical entity at the turn of the century, erythrophobia or fear of blushing is now considered as a subtype of social phobia. A historical review of the various clinical concepts of erythrophobia is given. Recent clinical developments and some differential diagnostical aspects are discussed.

Anthropophobia is the general term often taken as an equivalent to social phobia which comprises the several afflictions known in Europe under names like autodysosmophobia, scopophobia, erythrophobia, and olfactory reference syndrome, among others. Following a general introduction to anthropophobia, we will use three short observations to illustrate a phenomenological approach which shows both the confusion between the two dimensions of corpority and intersubjectivity and the specific relations joining body and language that are characteristic of this pathology. In addition to that, a psychoanalytical insight shows that anthropophobic patients possess traits that are specific to the intrusion complex and that reveal an evolutionary stage between narcissism and Oedipian phases.
