The population in the census was 1,751,394 - seven times what it was at the close of the Civil War in 1865. Wheat was the major crop. Flour and milling were still 46% of Minnesota's industrial base. Railroads were built in every direction from the Twin Cities and only about a dozen automobiles were in the state in 1902. Teddy Roosevelt was President of the United States. The Minneapolis Symphony was organized in 1903.
