Casper Schaefer received the contract for sawing the school wood for 50 cents and the church wood for 40 cents. On Feb 26th Father drove to Paynesville and brought nails and a lantern along.

Attended mass (the Pope’s Silver Crowning Jubilee). The supervisors were here.

Split wood. Father was to J. A. Michaels of Farming with barley to be ground.

Village and Town Elections. In the village the following officers were elected:

Trustees – Math Brok, Math Waggoneor and Jack Deiderich; Deidericks did not accept and Nick Blonigen was put in his place having the next greatest number of votes.

It rained pretty much last night. The moor overflowed it’s banks. Began cleaning wheat. On March 16th Dan returned from Dakota.

Father and Mother paid Peter Schmidt a visit.

Made heating-stove wood. In the afternoon Watch barked at a tree. I went to it and climbed up and saw a nose in the tree. I saw two golden eyes. Went home and called Father and Math. Went down with a stick but could feel nothing. Chopped a hole into a hollow twig and found it there. Chopped off the twig tight at the tree, held up a sack and pushed it in. took it home and put it into a barrel.
