Guidelines for Authors
The New Jersey Journal of Professional
Counseling, a refereed journal, invites manuscripts directed toward the
concerns and interests of counseling professionals. The journal is concerned
with matters relevant to professional issues, theory and application,
techniques, strategies, models, and research pertinent to the common interests
of counselors working in schools, colleges, community agencies, government,
business and industry.
If your wish to contribute to the journal, follow these guidelines:
- Manuscripts should be well organized and concise so the
development of ideas is logical. Avoid dull, stereotyped writing; aim at
the clear and interesting communication of ideas.
- The title of the article should appear on a separate page
accompanying the manuscript. Include on this page the names of the authors
and give the institutional affiliation of each.
- All manuscripts should be prepared based on the Publication Manual
of the American Psychological Association (5th Ed.). Running head,
abstracts, citations, references, tables and figures and all other matters
pertaining to editorial style must be APA style. All text must be
double-spaced and margins should be 1 inch all around. Do not use footnotes.
- Include an abstract of approximately 50 words. ·
- Tables should be kept to a minimum. Include only essential data,
and combine tables wherever possible. Each table must be on a separate
sheet of paper following the reference section of the article. Final
placement of tables is at the discretion of the production editor; in all
cases, tables will be placed near the first reference to the table in the
text. Figures (graphs, illustrations, line drawings) should be supplied as
camera-ready art (glossies prepared by a commercial artist) whenever
possible. Figure captions should be on a separate sheet as per APA and
attached to the art. Captions will be set in the appropriate type.
- Authors should follow APA guidelines for non-discriminatory
language with regard to gender, sexual orientation, racial identity,
ethnic identity, disability and age.
- Do not submit material that has been previously published or is
under consideration by another periodical.
- The text of the manuscript should be about 20 pages (excluding
abstract, references, tables, figures, etc.).
- The journal also publishes brief reports. These reports follow all
of the above guidelines and are five to six pages in length (excluding abstract,
references, tables, figures, etc.).
- Articles will be reviewed anonymously by members of the editorial
board. Do not put identifying information in the text.
- All submissions must be done electronically, as attachment to
email in Microsoft Word or Word Perfect file formats. Email the material
to George M. Kapalka, PhD, ABPP, Editor, The New Jersey Journal of
Professional Counseling to the email address listed below: You will be
notified on receipt of your manuscript and a tracking number will be
assigned. All communication about the article will occur electronically,
via email. Final publication decisions will be made by the editor.
