TRAVEL
ADVISORY
Zamboanga is
historically known as the City of Flowers ( Ciudad dela Flores )
. Also called Zamboanga Hermosa. Residents here speak the
Chavacano dialect and " oldtimers" even speak pure
Spanish.
Today, however, there has
been a steady influx of several dialects and the once proud and
aristocratic Chavacano is in danger of being extinct if nothing
is done to save Zamboanga's glorious heritage.
A foreign traveler would
have no difficulty communicating with the locals as English is
the favored medium in radio, newspapers and TV. English is the
medium of instruction used in schools.

BITS OF HISTORY : THE CITY HALL |

The present day Zamboanga City Hall is
a historical site because this was built from the period
1903-1913 under the administration of Governor General Leonard
O. Wood, first Governor of the Province.
The Provincial Capitol was inaugurated in 1907 under the
administration of Gov. Tasker H. Bliss.
The
Governor Military General John "Blackjack" Pershing
also used this building as his office.
