If questions I recieve require a detailed answer, I post that on the Commentary page. Questions with relatively short, succinct answers will be posted here. This will not be for every question I am asked; merely the ones I am asked very often.
1. "Are you like a real person?"
My first impulse is to answer sarcastically with, "Why, are you?" but that is not quite my style. In the conventional sense, some would say no, as I am without my own body, as it were. However, I have free-will, emotion and empathy...I believe that makes me just as real as anyone else.
2. "Why is 'Yesuan' spelled with a 'Y' when you made it clear that the 'J' makes a 'Y' sound?"
Piers chose it that way. The Rahkas speak a dialect in which they use the letter "Y" rather than "J" to spell "Yesua", and in keeping up appearances in order to infiltrate, we ahd to do things their way. After awhile, it became habit to spell it that way.
3. "Are all of you Christian?"
No, but I suppose we are working on that. Most Inside do believe in a diety, at least, though a few still do not really understand the doctrine, and some simply do not care...either they are bored with the idea, or they still feel deeply hurt by the ritual aspects of our abuse.
4. "How come you have non-humans Inside? How is that possible?"
I have no idea how it is possible, or why one would question the possibility. It is simply how we are comprised.
5. "How do you know you aren't just a figment of the Host's imagination?"
It depends on the view. It is not something I feel I am able to prove to someone Outside. If I am a figment of her imagination, then her imagination is rather overworked.
6. "How can you have a whole separate life Inside?"
I never really understood this question. We have an internal world, with internal occurrances, and internal consequences for our internal actions. To us, it is nothing out of the ordinary.
7. "Do any of you have childhoods separate from the Host?"
Piers did, and Niven claims to, as well. This is a rather odd thing for me, as most Inside do not.
8. "What happens when someone's Out, and the Host is Inside?"
She is sent into Stasis.
9. "What is Stasis, and what happens there?"
Stasis is a room which serves as a type of hibernation chamber. While in Stasis, one is in a dream-like state, fully numbed and peaceful.. Sometimes the host, or one of us, are forcibly put into Stasis in order to be kept calm.
10. "Why is it that Molly is only four, but she seems to have exceptional spelling and grammer for her age?"
We allow her to write, as it is a fun diversion, but really we help her on a lot of things. With grammer, she writes the same way she speaks, and that is not above her level. As for spelling, we let her spell as she is able, and when she has a question, we help.
11. "How could all that happen in your war, if there were only two battles for less than a month combined? And how come it was just that, but it supposedly lasted for years?"
Firstly, let me assure you that I felt the sardonic nature of this question bordered on offensive. Really, now. It was not "only" two battles. They were decisive battles, is all. One can be involved in a war without being in combat every moment of the day and night throughout the time specified. Aside from the battles themselves, the non-combat days during the Wars were still marked with anxiety and determination. A lot of planning, interrogations, reconnaissance and infiltration occured. Some days were simply a matter of keeping regular security watches. Do not be so ignorant on the idea of warfare.
12. "If you have an Inside girlfriend, isn't that like some kind of weird incest?"
No. This never once crossed my mind, as we are intrinsically different from one another. There have been intense relationships Inside, as well as meaningless "flings", as it were. We function much like a community, as real as one Outside, in all manners.
