Halloween at Ohio UniversityHeres Halloween weekend at Ohio University, and my being a little freshman here this was my first halloween experience here, so my room mate and friend, Carey and I decided to bring 6 of our friends from back home to come share it with. Courtney came home from Pittsburgh, Anya came down from Gannon and Jen came back frm Kent and they took Jen's sister's car and the three of them drove down to Ohio State on Friday night and picked up Jared, Shawn Freer, and Jeff Kovack and then the 6 of them came to Ohio University to stay for the weekend. So it was the 6 of them and Jessi Belco, Carey Downs, Dana (she was in the Champion class of '99), and I all having the time of our lives! We basically were at Dana Salonen's wild apartment the whole weekend, and of course dressed up and went uptown Saturday night, along with 40,000 other people. It was so crazy and by 11:00 pm you couldnt even walk there were so many people, and it was so cold! I have some pictures scanned of my friends and I and I do have some from the Ohio University newspaper, The Post. I'll be updating more soon!!

Police!
Above is a picture of a few of the many police here that weekend, last year there were over a hundred arrests, this year there were more people but only 50 arrests. An article about Halloween from our newspaper, The Post: Catholic schoolgirls, 1970s pimps and Playboy bunnies were out in force Saturday night for the annual Uptown Halloween block party. A steady and relatively mellow crowd roamed Court Street to see and be seen. Popular costumes included groups of Smurfs, a Chinese dragon, the Ohio University graffiti wall and a Rubik"s cube. Athens residents, Ohio University students and people from out of town flocked to Court Street to see the unexpected. "I saw a guy in a thong and a cape, riding around on a scooter," Athens resident Jack Garner said. "It was hilarious." Meghan Clark, an OU senior, said she had seen some of her favorite costumes, but too many of others. "If I see one more "70s pimp, I"m gonna go crazy," she said. Elizabeth Smole, an Ohio State University sophomore heard the rumors of Halloween before she came to town. "I had to see it for myself," Smole said. "It"s totally unbelievable." Partygoers were not the only people perusing Court Street. A number of safety teams, vendors and a religious congregation from a Cincinnati church also could be found. iAnna Frankart, a concession worker from Willard, said she has attended the celebration with her employer, Kern Concessions, for roughly 10 years. The best part of Halloween is watching the festivities, she said. "It"s the gas we get from everybody out in the crowd," Frankart said. "It"s a trip." Several Athens businesses set up tables on Court Street. Lynn Morris, an employee of Pizza Hut, 394 Richland Ave., said the restaurant set up its buggy around 3 p.m. and anticipated a large crowd later that night. Non-profit organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Athens County, had booths lining the street. Shelly Horvath and Svea Maxwell, members of TEAM Athens County, an underage drinking prevention coalition, were among others passing out snacks and non-alcoholic beverages on Court Street. The group has set up a booth for three years. Members of The Love and Faith Fellowship, a non-denominational church from Cincinnati, used the celebration as a time to meet people and spread the gospel, said parishioner Joe Baughman. "It"s a calling. It"s not work or burdensome; it"s actually fun," Baughman said.
