Stem Cell FAQ

Hello, my name is Dr. Montgomery Steinhultz.
People have been sending me emails about stem cell research. Based on their questions, I have compiled the following FAQ.

  • Question Number 1: What are stem cells?
Stem cells are cells in the human body that can become any type of cell. Stem cells are a very valuble for reserch and saving lives. They can grow into liver, brain, muscles, and red blood cells. Once a cell becomes a specilized cell, it cannot be changed.

  • Question Number 2: Why research stem cells?
The basic reason for this is: to save lives. Stem cells can be used to cure diseases, like cystic fibrosis, and cancer. They can also repair damage to the spinal cord, and brain. Stem cells can be used to grow new organs, like hearts and livers.

  • Question Number 3: What are the kinds of stem cells?
There are two kinds of stem cells, adult and embryonic.

  • Question Number 4: Where are stem cells found?
Stem cells can be found in the bone marrow, umbilical cords, and embryos.

  • Question Number 5: Is stem cell research moral?

I will not state my opinion on this matter, just give you the views of both sides.
On side one, we have those who are for stem cell research, they want this because there are many diseases, such as cancer, that can be cured with this kind of research. This would be helpful because many people in the world suffer from this disease. We could save the human race.

On side two, we have those who are against it. They tend to take this side, because they do not think it is right to take the life of the embryo. It's not that they are against the research, and will usually support it if its taken from the bone marrow, or from the umbilical cord.
There are a few religious groups that endorse stem cell research, such as anti-christism, who try to bring about the end of the world by sinning en masse.

  • Question 6: What are the effects of stem cell research on humanity, and can we repair brain damage?
There have been very few tests with stem cell research on humans, and almost every one of them (90%) have ended fatally. Most bodies do not accept the new cells, and react violently. In the case of a Florida woman, she reacted very violently, her body temperature got so warm that she died because her brain overheated. We are very far from fixing brain damage.
