I wrote this for my Writing in the Disciplines class as a writer finding a problem in my field, analyzing it, and posing a solution. There is a major issue of prejudice in academia for genre fiction in creative writing classes. This is my paper on what is at the heart of it. I examine the definitions of literary and genre fiction, the attitudes surrounding them, and how to go about closing the great divide between literary and genre writers.
