- In 1868 he went to st Edwards school in Oxford for 7 years (1868 to 1875) and did very well.
- He finished at a public school and gained 1st XV colours for Rodger, was secretary of the 2nd XI at criket, shot at wimbledon, and spent his last four terms for Michaelmas 1874.
