Some Truths About Satan

Welcome to this section of Bible Study Made Easy. This part of the website will be devoted to helping the Christian in his fight against Satan and the powers of darkness. Do you think Satan is a myth....or that the "powers of darkness" is simply a metaphor? Then, you'd better think again! Your eternal destiny depends upon whether or not you succumb to the evil plots and snares of these dark forces.

Hi! My name is Kenneth Hill. I hope to shed some light on our great adversary, Satan. Incidentally, if you would like to contact me for any reason, my email address is posted at the bottom of this page. Feel free to write at any time!

Yes....we are in a battle, an endless struggle against Satan and his horde of demons. At least, we are - IF we are Christians! Sinners are not at war against Satan....they are {whether or not they realize it} enlisted in his army.

Let's go to the Scriptures for a graphic description of this "state of war" in which each Christian is a part. We quote from Eph. 6:10-18 {KJV}:

"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastpalte of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;"

We'll discuss this passage in detail later. For now, however, I's like to make a few introductory remarks about the topic of "spiritual warfare" and to point out some reasons why we need to be familiar with the Bible teachings on this subject.

The war of Good vs. Evil began eons ago....even before man was created. It began when Lucifer rebelled against God. Although the details are sketchy, we obtain a basic outline of what happened from reading Isaiah 14:12-15. There we are told that Lucifer {another name for Satan} tried to usurp the throne of God. According to this Scripture passage, he said in his heart that "I will ascend into heaven...I will exalt my throne above the stars of God...I will be like the most High."{KJV}

Lucifer was created as a mighty angel - evidently the most powerful created being. Only God Himself was more powerful. As an outcome of Satan's dastardly rebellion, God was forced to cast Lucifer out of heaven. We aren't told the exact time when this event occurred....it could have been thousands....or millions....of years ago. But, for us, the time isn't really important. What isimportant is that this tragic event began a warfare of Satan vs. God....a warfare which has persisted unto this day.

How did mankind become involved? Again, we don't know all the details. God has chosen to reveal only what we needto know for our salvation and spiritual welfare. We aren't told everything involved....perhaps we'll understand all the details when we get to heaven! For now, though, God evidently does not see fit to satisfy our curiosity. We doknow, however, that mankind's entrance into this spiritual warfare dates back to the Garden of Eden when Satan tempted Adam and Eve.

It would appear that Satan was jealous over the newly-created beings whom God had placed in the Garden of Eden. He just couldn't stand to see them enjoy the favor of God while he himself was cast away from the presence of God. If he could only destroy this new creation of God....he could, at least indirectly....hurt God Himself {or so he reasoned}. Thus began his plot to overthrow the human race!
