Journalism staff of spring 2002

The Journalism staff of spring 2002 celebrates meeting a deadline with a pizza party.  The students had finished eight color pages and eight spot color pages.

Check out the link to the State Standards, which provides curriculum, instruction, and assessment resources to support standards-based instruction.
Teachers can find links of lesson plans, curriculum, and assessment items.  Also, there are web-based classroom resources.

The utilization of technology has become such a major part of our lives today that we expect quality projects, presentations, and photographs.  Students use Microsoft Power Point, digital cameras, and flatbed scanners almost daily.  The yearbook staff sends a combination of developed photos and digital photos for the yearbook.

Students access web sites for research and have  up-to-the-minute information available and the latest in current events happening all around the world.  In addition to the delivery of  The State newspaper on Thursdays, students who have permission may access on-line news sources, such as CNN news.

It is a time to be proud of our community, our state, our country, and our nation.  The students have shown a huge interest in current events now because of the war in Iraq.  They enjoy checking out their favorite news source before we begin the day's activities.

In the spring eighth grade students may sign up for three choices for their exploratories. In most cases the students receive his/her first choice.  Most of the exploratories last for a nine weeks; however, Journalism will be a committment for a semester.  Students will combine their talents to design and create the school newspaper and the yearbook.
