Different approaches suit different people. The more you know about what there is out there, the sooner you'll find something which could benefit you or someone you know who needs help.

When you need help, it's not easy to ask around unless you know someone already helping people, not easy to raise the subject in the first place, not easy to walk into a bookshop and ask for books. See the Books & Information Page, and Note below on obtaining books privately.

Help can turn up in unexpected ways. We hope, if there is not a specific organisation near you, there'll be some support you can make use of via someone you know, by telephoning a national organisation such as The Samaritans (who are there 24 hours a day), Helplines appearing after a TV programme, or by following up something from a book, a newspaper or magazine article

You can search the Internet for information, follow Links. look in Directories or Newsletters, and work towards something to suit you. The purpose of these Websites is to help you in this search, to encourage you to believe that there is good help out there.

It may be difficult to find something in your area, or something relating to your own personal experiences, but it is worth the effort. You can print these pages off for anyone you know who is seeking help.

For Non-Web Users - If you know someone with Internet access and a printer, or you can get to an Internet café or Library ask them to print parts of this Site or other information.

BOOKS

Large bookshops have sections relating to Psychology, Self-Help, Child Abuse, Social Work. There are more books nowadays written in plain language, both by people who have experienced childhood abuse themselves, and by people who help Survivors of abuse, giving useful information in a non-threatening way. You can search on the Internet for books and information, and work towards something to suit you.  Many Websites which you can reach via the Links Pages on this Site, also list useful books.
